PS 303

In Class Assignment

Week of 2 Sept, 13

Problem 1: Draw a graph of Y vs. X for: (a) Y = 3X with X ranging from 5 to 5. (b) Y = X 2 with X ranging from 3 to 3. 3 with X ranging from 3 to 3. (c) Y = X 2 (d) Y = 2 X with X ranging from 0 to 25 (notice that the square root of a negative number is not well dened!). To draw each of these graphs, make a table of values with columns labelled X and Y for each of the cases. Starting from the minimum value of X , increase values of X by +1, +0.5 or whatever number you nd convenient. Plot the data points on graph paper, having drawn and labelled the vertical and horizontal axes appropriately, then connect the points as smoothly as you can to reveal the shape of that particular graph.
