Again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying,

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury (Zechariah 8:1-2).

pleased, and they helped forward the affliction. This is quite revealing: the LORD of hosts is sore displeased with the heathen, but only a little displeased with His people. Why was God, and is even today, so displeased with the nations? Answer: they helped forward the affliction. It seems necessary to explain this once again and relate it to our times. We are always in danger of the Luciferian opinion that all nations are somehow wrong and our nation is right. That seems quite natural, because we love ourselves. The Bible says, No man ever yet hated his own flesh (Ephesians 5:29). For that reason, the Bible gives us the great commandment to love our neighbor as ourselves. Who is our neighbor? The ones we dislike, despise, and quite often hate. Would we all practice this commandment, there would be peace on earth. Jesus said in Matthew 22:38-39 the following: This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Anyone who speaks about peace and freedom is instantly exposed by these precise words of our Lord that hit our inner being like a sledgehammer hitting a rock. Love they neighbor as thyself. When we keep this biblical fact in mind while reading and hearing the news media,

eginning with chapter 8, the prophet Zechariah passes on the direct words of God. Only in verses 1 and 18 does he mention himself receiving the Word of God. The rest is the speaking of the Lord of hosts. Zechariah is no longer involved in a dialogue, neither does he see visions that need to be explained. Now he directly receives the words of God. It seems significant that the words, Lord of hosts appear 18 times in this chapter. The word Lord is understood in Hebrew to be Jehovah, meaning or identifying the national name of the God of Israel. The word hosts according to Strongs Hebrew Dictionary, could be translated, A mass of persons. Thus, we recognize that God is speaking as the almighty and all powerful, supreme authority over His people Israel, Jerusalem, and all the world. The issue is the Lords jealousy for Zion. Here it may be helpful to reread chapter 1:14: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. Why? We dealt with this question previously, but to refresh our minds, let us also read verse 15: And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little dis4

even the Christian ones, we notice quickly the unbridled hate expressed against our neighbors. Todays popular hate is directed against the poor, foreigners, illegal immigrants, and lately against the Muslims. In other words, oppose anyone who is not like us. This tendency of the world, and unfortunately this includes much of Christianity, stands in direct opposition to the commandment of Jesus Christ our Lord, Love thy neighbor as thyself. Take Jerusalem and Israel for example. There is an abundance of Christian literature highlighting Americas friendship with Jews and love for Israel and Jerusalem. Yet in reality, they are blatant lies. The Bible exposes all these untruths, for example, in Joel 3:2: I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land. Note carefully the words, all nations. Can we name any nation that is pro-Israel or pro-Jerusalem? According to Holy Scripture, there is none. Is there any nation on the face of the earth that agrees with Israels boundaries, according to Gods covenant? There is none. No nation takes Gods Word seriously: In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates (Genesis 15:18). Is there any nation that agrees with Israel regarding Jerusalem being the undivided capital city of the Jewish state of Israel? There is none. Now we should understand why the word jealous appears three times in verse 2. This is directed against the nations of the world. Therefore, dont permit the diabolical thought that your nation is somehow different! Next comes the glorious promise of Zions restoration: Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain (verse 3). Its not Rome, Moscow, Washington, London, or any other city but Jerusalem. Truth will only be revealed in and through Jerusalem. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age. And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof (verses 4-5). When it comes to Zions restoration, the Lord prepares the city and the land first, then come the people, the aged and the young. In a very remarkable way, chapter 36 of the book of Ezekiel shows the succession. First, God prepares the land, and then He brings the people: But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come (verse 8). We must keep in mind this is the doing of the LORD of hosts. It is the God of Israel who reveals Himself with irresistible force through His innumerable hosts. For those who heard and read this message, it was quite a surprise, but the Lord takes care of that matter too: Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts (verse 6). Now comes the regathering of the Jewish people: Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west

country (verse 7). Note that this prophetic Word was not limited to the return of the Jewish people from Babylonian captivity. It says from the east and from the west; that means from around the world. This is actually happening in our generation. Millions upon millions of Jews have returned to the land of their fathers, but many more millions are yet to come to their homeland of Israel. Immediately, we recognize why the nations, inspired by Lucifer, try so desperately to hinder the return of the Jewish people to the land of Israel by dividing the Promised Land into sections of Israeli and Arab territory. If Israel is forced by the nations of the world to limit their territory to the geographical area before the Six-Day War, then there will not be enough room to receive the remnant of about six million Jews who are still in the Diaspora into the land of Israel. Never must we be so naive to think that certain political realities make it necessary to negotiate in order to accommodate the will of both the Arabs and the Jews. The real reason behind the opposition to Zionism is simply the attempted hindrance of the fulfillment of Gods Word. If the land is taken away from the Jews, then they cannot return. That is the philosophy of the god of this world, and unanimously agreed to by all nations of the world. However, God ignores the opposition and simply states: I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness (verse 8). We notice that Israels hope is not dependent on their ability to negotiate with the nations or with their Arab neighbors; neither can they accomplish it through weapons of war. There is only one way, and that is the way of grace. God Himself will be their truth and righteousness. This indeed is Gods marvelous doing. When the Lord of hosts does something, it is absolute; there cannot be any opposition. After speaking prophecy about the Jewish people that reaches into our days, the Lord turns to the building of the Temple during those days: Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built (verse 9). The people are encouraged to heed the words of the prophets. What was the message of the prophets? Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD (Haggai 1:7-8). The Jews who had returned from Babylonian captivity were instructed to build the Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem. To show the people that now is the time to heed the prophetic Word, God reminds them of the previous days: For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour (Zechariah 8:10). During those days, the people were working in vain; there was no gain, for even the animals, the beasts of burden, brought no prosperity. Worse yet, peace was not present, so there was continuous war, conflict and fighting. They achieved nothing; everyone was against his neighbor. Yet from this point on, something new was going to happen: But now I will not be unto the residue of this people as in the former days, saith the LORD of hosts. For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the

ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things (verses 11-12). Luther translates the words seed shall be prosperous with they shall be seeds of peace. That is definitely a prophecy of the coming Prince of Peace. And Israel shall be the seed of peace. Later when Jesus came, He made this promise: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27). That is a totally different peace from anything that is offered in the world. Jesus actually emphasizes this fact when He says, not as the world giveth. In other words, The peace of the world is not my peace. His peace is the one that passeth all understanding. That type of peace is identical with the person Jesus Christ our Lord, for He is our peace, the Bible says. As a result of their personal change, nature responds and the harvest increases. The Lord God will even moisten the fruit of the ground with the dew of heaven. This national change is clearly described: And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong (verse 13). The fact that the Jews were accursed among the heathen is well documented in the annals of history. For millennia they have been chased from one place to another, trying desperately to be accepted by the Gentile host nations, but all in vain. Just before their return to the land of Israel in modern times, over six million Jews were systematically and deliberately murdered under the auspices of Germanys Nazi Empire. Now all that is going to change. Israel is admonished again, Fear not, but let your hands be strong. They now have the promise of God; they will be seeds of peace. This is very important to understand, for only when we come in contact with the Prince of Peace can we harvest true peace. All other peace is an imitation: it will not last because it is the peace which the world giveth. Israel is destined to be a blessing to the whole world. And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong (verse 13). This is definitely not the case today. Although there are a number of nations that seem to be Israel-friendly, when we investigate it thoroughly, we note that the whole world, without exception, is anti-Israel. I realize that this is a hard saying, but I am convinced it is biblically based. We must always keep in mind that this world is through and through evil: it is corrupt and hopelessly lost. Planet Earth is ruled by the god of this world; virtually all of humanity obeys the dictates of Satan. Who are Satans servants? Anyone who commits sin. The Bible says, He who sins is of the devil. When we realize that in truth, we immediately recognize our hopeless situation. Not only hopeless, but also helpless. We cannot save ourselves; we cannot help ourselves. We need the interference by the supernatural, the God of heaven. We are subject to His grace; such was and is the case, and also where Israel is concerned. For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not: So

again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not (verses 14-15). Here we recognize two different intentions of God. He promised the fathers who provoked Him severe judgment, but His thoughts also turned to the well being of Jerusalem and Judah. Someone may now say that God changes. In verse 14, He has thoughts of punishment, and in verse 15, He has thoughts of well doing. On the surface, this may seem correct, but it is not. All the punishments the Lord pronounced through His prophets were fully executed, but those punishments never invalidated the promises to the father of IsraelAbraham. God does not change, but He continues to fulfill every single promise He has ever made. For example, Genesis 12:2: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing. The fulfillment continues until our days. Once again, the Lord of hosts pinpoints the peoples responsibility toward each other: These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD (verses 16-17). Can you imagine what would happen if the true members of the Church would cease to imagine evil against one another? Quite simply, the Church would fulfill her task, hate would be absent, and love would prevail. That is actually a commandment of the Lord: A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another (John 13:34). In the midst of the world of chaos, hate, war, controversies, and bloodshed, love one another. This small group of people, the Church of Jesus Christ, would prove to be witnesses of Him; they would prove themselves to be true disciples: By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another (John 13:35). Verse 18 presents an interruption in Gods speaking: we now read the words of Zechariah: And the word of the LORD of hosts came unto me, saying. These are the same words as in the beginning, but now something glorious is being spoken by the Lord of hosts: Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace (verse 19). Fasting is not something that is joyful. A person who practices fasting segregates himself from the pleasures of life, of which one is the indulgence in food. But here, the Lord specifically says that these fastings will be turned into feasting; there will be gladness and joy based upon lov[ing] the truth and peace. Israel now demonstrates this through joyful feasts. They no longer have to strive toward the Lords truth and peace, but they themselves have been transformed into love, truth and peace. We may be reluctant to admit it, but by nature we do not love truth and peace. We may affirm that we do with an oath a thousand times, but in reality, we would rather not be confronted with truth and with peace. Let us be open and honest in this matter. Would we really want to have our inner being, the very thoughts of our mind, exposed before the world? Are we willing to have truth and peace reveal the very secrets of our thought-life? Job was a person

whom God could say was perfect and upright, but when he was confronted with the God of truth, he had to confess: I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes (Job 42:5-6). Who is truth and peace? Jesus said, I am the truth, and He is our peace in person. We can only vaguely imagine what would happen if each of us began to walk in the light of this truth and peace. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities: And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also (verses 20-21). The word people can be translated as nations. This is the reverse of missionary activity; we are told to go out into all the world, but here it says all the world is now coming to Israel for the sake of truth and peace. The report in Acts 2 confirms this divine principle, as recorded in the last two verses: And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Often I think we put the cart before the horse: we try all kinds of methods to encourage people to come to church, but without making sure that we love truth and peace. That means being in perfect unity with our brethren in the Lord in all things. Only then will the Lord add to those who are saved and build His Church until it is complete. Look at the chain reaction instituted by the practice of love, the truth and peace: Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD (verse 22). There are divisions between all who are involved: between the Jews and the Arabs, and between the Muslims, Jews and Christians. Every nation on the face of the earth has an opinion on how to solve the conflict. The majority of them agree with the Vaticans policy to have the city internationalized. That incorporates some truth, but in the reverse direction. The first requirement is to love the truth and peace; the rest God will accomplish. Finally, we see how Jesus statement, Salvation is of the Jews is demonstrated for the entire world: Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you (verse 23). We know from history that this particular promise has not been fulfilled. Several organizations that monitor anti-Semitism in our times tell us that there is an increase of anti-Semitism. Here, however, we see the opposite is to take place. People the world over will recognize that God is with the Jews; subsequently, they want to be part of it. That is yet to be fulfilled! MC

he Bible and the Christian are inseparably connected. A Christian is the fruit of the Bible. Unlike any other book ever written, the Bible is identical with the living Son of God. This is documented for us in the first three verses of the Gospel of John: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. There is no life, there is no creation, and there is no Christian without the Word of God. Those who believe in the message of the Bible and are born again of His Spirit, confirm, insist and testify that this book from Genesis to Revelation is Gods revealed counsel to mankind. peated failure of Israel to keep the Law. This was a clear demonstration that man in his old nature would and could not do the perfect will of God. Hebrews 8:78 confirms the failure of the first covenant and reveals the New Covenant: For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. Moses foretold of a coming prophet: The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken (Deuteronomy 18:15). That meant a new Law proclaimed by a new Prophet would be established. Later, the prophet Jeremiah confirms the coming of the New Covenant: Behold, the days come, saith the

LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah (Jeremiah 31:31). Why was this New Covenant necessary? Because the Old Covenant had been broken: Here is the declaration of God to His people Israel regarding the New Covenant: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD. But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people (Jeremiah 31:32-33). The Initiator of the keeping of the new Law will be the Lord Himself. This new Law will be totally different; it is not based on the sacrificing of animals, but on the knowledge of the Lord: And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more (Jeremiah 31:34). The New Covenant promised here is based on Gods I will. To emphasize the difference between the old and the new Law is extremely important. The Old Covenant was based on a substitutionary sacrifice, which covered the peoples sin temporarily. The New Covenant is based on the blood of the Son of God, which takes away the sins of the world. The first was subject to the obedience of Israel, and the last is perfected in Christ and sealed with His blood eternally.

Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone (Ephesians 2:20). We note that the church is built on the apostles that is the New Covenant; the prophetsthats the Old Covenant; and Jesus Christ Himself is the Chief Cornerstone. This constitutes the only foundation on which the Church of Jesus Christ our Lord is built. It is important to understand that the New Testament cannot be divided from the Old, neither the Old from the New: it is one book and one message, from one God to all of mankind for all ages.

Old Prophecies Fulfilled

The first book in the New Testament is the Gospel of Matthew. When we read it, we find the word fulfilled several times. For example, the name of Jesus: And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet (Matthew 1:21-22). Joseph, Mary and the Child escaped to Egypt when King Herod attempted to kill the newborn King: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son (Matthew 2:15). When the male children in Bethlehem (2 years and under) were killed, it was fulfillment of prophecy: ...Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not (Matthew 2:1718). Later, Joseph and Mary moved with the child to Nazareth: And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene (verse 23). These few citations should suffice to show the unity between the Old and the New Testament. Second Timothy 3:16 summarizes the whole Bible with these words: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

The Foundation of the Church

The same God who authored the Old Covenant is also the author of the New Covenant. The foundation is the Lamb of God, the One from eternity: For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:11). To the Ephesians, the Apostle Paul states: And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,

Stephen concludes his testimony with a strong accusation, echoing the words of Jesus: Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers (Acts 7:51-52). The Gospel
The word gospel can be translated good message or good news. We may define, therefore, the whole Bible as the gospel of Jesus Christ. When Jesus arose from the dead, He appeared to the apostles and made the following important statement: These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me (Luke 24:44). That is the Old TestamentMoses, the prophets and the Psalms. Therefore, Jesus put His seal of approval on the Old Testament as reliable and accurate. The Old Testament proclaimed Jesus coming; the New Testament documents that Jesus did come to accomplish the perfect will of the Father, and makes the prophetic claim that He is coming again. Let us now consider the gospel in three parts: The Gospel of History The Gospel of Salvation The Gospel of Prophecy hell? Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate (Matthew 23:29-38). Those who were entrusted with the ministry of the Old Covenant were unmercifully exposed as being in the wrong. Note that Jesus goes way back, past Israels beginnings to Abel and Cain. Thereby He confirms Scripture beginning with Genesis, all the way through the Old Testament to Zechariah. He goes one step further, laying charge to the religious authority for the killing of righteous Abel to the prophet Zechariah. He is revealing that the evil spirit that caused Cain to kill his brother Abel is the same one that caused the religious authority to kill Zechariah. What would be the end result? The end of the city of Jerusalem, including the holy Temple. The destruction would be so severe that not one stone would be found intact upon another: And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down (Matthew 24:2).

1. The Gospel of History

Jesus presents indisputable proof of the accuracy of the Old Testament. He pronounces judgment upon the religious authority in Jerusalem, who violated the truth of the Old Testament with these words: Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of

Hebrews 10:4 testifies: For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Speaking of Jesus, Hebrews 10:12 says: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God. With His act of self-sacrifice, He took away our sins, as recorded in 1 John 3:5: And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
This prophecy came true in 70 A.D., when the Roman legion recaptured Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets (Acts 13:33-40). When Paul returned from his missionary journey, he was arrested in Jerusalem, and again he uses the Old Testament to confirm Israels history in Acts 23. Clearly, the gospel of history was confirmed repeatedly throughout the New Testament.

Stephen Documents the Gospel of History

Stephen in his lengthy defense recalls Israels beginnings, starting with Abraham. He summarizes several important events in the history of Israel, such as the 400-year bondage in Egypt. He speaks of Isaac, Jacob and Joseph, and mentions Moses who led the people out of Egypt. Then he concludes his testimony with a strong accusation, echoing the words of Jesus: Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers (Acts 7:5152).

2. The Gospel of Salvation

The central message of the Bible is the gospel of salvation. To be precise, eternal salvation obtained through faith in the accomplished work of Jesus, resulting in the rebirth. That was impossible under the Old Covenant. The priestly service and the sacrifice could at most temporarily cover the sins of the people. The gospel of salvation of the New Covenant, however, is something totally new: it causes the eradication of sin. It is not based on the keeping of the Law and the repeated sacrifice, but it is based on the ultimate payment for sin, namely the blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Hebrews 10:4 testifies: For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Speaking of Jesus, Hebrews 10:12 says: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God. Paul Testifies of the Gospel of History

During his first missionary journey recorded in Acts 13, we find the Apostle Paul preaching the gospel of history from the Old Testament to the men of Israel in Antioch. He documents Israels history and demonstrates that Jesus is the fulfillment. He mentions David as a clear pointer to the Holy OneJesus the Christ: God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mer-

3:5: And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. That is the distinct difference between the Old and the New Covenant. The Old Covenant presented the possibility for the people of Israel to have their sins covered with the blood of the sacrifice, but the New Covenant is based on the blood of the sinless One as the full payment for the sins of the entire world. This New Covenant takes away sin. To Nicodemus, Jesus made this statement: Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God (John 3:3-5). The old nature, that is, the old man, cannot enter into the kingdom. The Bible says, Flesh and blood cannot enter the kingdom of God. Only the new substance, the new spiritual person is able to enter into the kingdom of God. So how can this new birth be obtained? The answer is almost too simple: it is through faith in the accomplished work of Jesus Christ our Lord: In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13). Jesus makes it crystal clear that there is nothing in between believing and unbelieving, being born again of the Spirit of God and not being born again of the Spirit of God: He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him (John 3:36). That is the gospel of salvation. It was accomplished exclusively and alone by the sinless One, the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. The Gospel of Prophecy

The Bible stands alone when compared with other religious writings. Its uniqueness can be described with one word: prophecy. What is prophecy? In simple terms, it is predicting the future. Prophets of the Bible predicted events that would transpire thousands of years later. What is even more astonishing is that a number of prophets, inspired by the Holy Spirit,

would prophesy at various times, separated by hundreds of years, yet precisely proclaim the same event. The greatest event in all of history was the appearance of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. When we study the Old Testament in detail, we will find that the events surrounding the birth of Christthe birthplace, the time, the infancy, the manhood, the teaching, the character, career, preaching, reception, rejection, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension were prophesied hundreds of years before Jesus Christ was born. Before we list a few examples, just imagine that long before there was a United States of America, someone would have written that a nation would be established by the name, the United States of America. That there would be a president by the name of Abraham Lincoln, and that president would be assassinated. If such a document existed, we would certainly call it prophetically divine. Do we have any documents predicting that Shakespeare would be born 300 years before his birth? None! We may search the annals of history, but will find no such documentation. Man does not know what tomorrow brings, let alone what will happen a hundred years from todays date. The best man can do is learn from history and, on the basis of the past, develop some type of prognosis to forecast the future, hoping it all somehow pans out. But as we know, such prophetic forecasts are usually wrong in the end. How different it is with the Bible. Let us look at a few examples: The Savior would be born of the seed of a woman (Genesis 3:15). That prophecy was made approximately 6,000 years ago. Moses speaks of the coming Messiah: I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him (Deuteronomy 18:18). Luke 7:16 speaks of the fulfillment: And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. Psalm 2:7 prophesies: I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Matthew 3:17 confirms the fulfillment: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Even if the Jews had gone back to the land of Israel, they would have found a desert-like place, agriculturally unproductive; in short, they would have starved. Thus, the Lord God had to prepare the land for the people. Here the prophet proclaims: But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come (Ezekiel 36:8). That was written approximately 2,597 years ago!
The Psalms give details about Jesus crucifixion. Psalm 22:1 speaks of Him being forsaken by God: My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? In verse 7, we read of people shaking their heads at Him; verses 7-8 report of scorning and mocking. In verse 15, the Messiah suffers thirst. Verse 18 reports that soldiers will gamble for his clothes. In Psalm 31:5, Jesus commits himself to God. Psalm 34:20 says that none of His bones are to be broken. Psalm 35:11 speaks of Him being accused by false witnesses. Psalm 38:11 tells of friends who look at Him from a distance. In Psalm 41:9, a friend betrays Him. There are an overwhelming number of prophecies regarding Jesus of Nazareth in the Old Testament, and we find their fulfillment in the New Testament. About 740 years before Jesus was born, we read of His virgin birth: Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14). Looking at Isaiah 53, we have a report of the Messiah being smitten and spat upon, not believed by the people, rejected, wounded, and bruised, yet He was silent before His accusers. He died between two criminals, yet He was buried in a tomb of a rich man. The place of Jesus birth was identified over 700 years before He was born: But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting (Micah 5:2). The prophet Isaiah also speaks of the supernatural works the Messiah would accomplish: Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert (Isaiah 35:5-6). Jesus Himself confirmed this Scripture in Matthew 11:5: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. These few citations should suffice to show the truth of the prophetic Word of the Old Testament, fulfilled by Jesus Christ our Lord. That is the gospel of prophecy. It is important to emphasize that the prophets who spoke of Jesus coming, His miraculous birth, supernatural works, death on Calvarys cross, and subsequent resurrection on the third daydid not know each other. They were inspired by the Holy Spirit, prophesying during different times, but always identifying the same person, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

The Jews and Israel

While the fulfillment of prophecy concerning the Messiah took place almost 2,000 years ago, we have the fulfillment of prophecies in our days as well. Let us take a look at the prophet Ezekiel, who wrote about the dispersion and the return of the Jewish people to the land of Israel. Here is a quotation written almost 600 years before Christ: And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country (Ezekiel 34:13). Then he warns the believers: Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again (verses 18-23). Never must we forget that our roots are in the land of Israel. Someone may now object and say that Israel does not believe in Jesus Christ as their Messiah. That indeed is true, but read verse 28: As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers sakes. Two distinct identities are revealed: the Church and Israel. The relationship is clearly defined in verse 25: Blindness in part is happen to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles is come in. What is the fullness of the Gentiles? The completion of the Church of Jesus Christ on earth! Jesus Himself stated, I will build my church. This Church is not manifested by any denomination, organization or movement. The Church Jesus speaks of consists exclusively of born-again believers who make up His body; that is His only true Church. When the last one from among the Gentiles is added to that Church, then the fullness has come in and the Church collectively will be raptured into the presence of the Lord, as documented for us in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

A FALSE GOSPEL
Whenever and wherever you attend a church and the threefold Gospel is not presented, then you are not receiving Gods full counsel as revealed in the Bible. The true gospel incorporates the gospel of history, the gospel of salvation and the gospel of prophecy. The imitation gospel will leave out the gospel of prophecy because it is inconvenient. After all, who wants to hear about the end of the world, judgment, bloodshed, destruction, etc.? That message is not popular in many churches, and therefore is conveniently left out. The Apostle Paul warns of the false gospel in 2 Corinthians 11:4: For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. This clearly demonstrates another Jesus, another spirit and another gospel. But this false gospel is a dangerous one. Quite simply, it will lead to eternal damnation. We must not forget that the enemies of the Jews and of the land of Israel are the enemies of the gospel as well. That is why the Devil himself transforms into an angel of light: For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). Satans success lies in his ability to dissect the message of the Gospel. He loves to present a message of love, understanding, cooperation and peace for all people, but deliberately leaves out the gospel of prophecy. Jesus said, Salvation is of the Jews, and that salvation was accomplished in Israel outside the walls of Jerusalem, where He hung dying on the cross and cried out, It is finished. The gospel of prophecy says that He will come again to Israel, to Jerusalem. To be precise, He will come to the very same place from which He ascended into heaven: the Mount of Olives. That is the reason why all nations of the world oppose Israels claim to the whole city of Jerusalem. (375)

With regard to the coming of the Lord Jesus, there is much emphasis upon the Greek words parousia, apokalupsis, and epiphaneia. As demonstrated in the first part of this article, those words do not catalog one single event; rather, these words are used throughout the New Testament to characterize both the rapture and the second coming. Since it is the biblical context that determines which coming is referenced, we will how show the context of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 demonstrates that the comfort of this passage is the reunion of the deceased and living saints in Christ at the pretribulational rapture.

GRIEF AND HOPE IN 1THESSALONIANS 4

Pretribulationism and posttribulationism are the two primary premillennial views with regard to the rapture of the church; therefore, this article will consider only those two doctrines.1 When examining 1 Thessalonians 4, both pretribulationists and posttribulationists agree that there truly was a grieving of the church at Thessalonica, but believe that they were grieving for different reasons. Verse 13 reads, But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. Pretribulationists understand the grief of 1 Thessalonians 4:13 as a consequence of believing that the rapture of the church would culminate with all the church

receiving glorified bodies, and that this coming of the Lord could occur in their own lifetimes. It was possible that the early church would not experience death but would be raptured as those who were alive and remained until the coming of the Lord Jesus. The Apostle Paul even included himself as one who could have experienced the rapture in his own lifetime (cf. his usage of the inclusive first person plural we). Following the initial teaching with regard to the rapture, some Christians had died, and the Thessalonian church had become intensely concerned because they were inquiring what would occur to the dead in Christ at the rapture. The question it seems was whether the dead in Christ would participate in the rapture, or would they have to wait until the end of the seven-year tribulation.

FIRST THESSALONIANS 4 AND THE RAPTURE

The language used in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 indicates that the prophecy of the rapture is with regard to Christiansthe churchas opposed to the saved of all the ages. For example, when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He did not merely say, Come forth; rather, He said, Lazarus, come forth, because if He said, Come forth only, then all the dead would rise. Jesus spoke specifically, and said only, Lazarus, come forth (John 11).

Some posttribulationists understand the grief of 1 Thessalonians 4:13 as a consequence of believing that the resurrection of the dead in Christ would occur at the end of the millennium.2 According to such an interpretation, the Thessalonian believers understood the rapture as granting new, glorified bodies to those living, but then having to wait until the end of the millennium for the dead in Christ to receive their glorified bodies. Therefore, the concern was regarding a long separation between those believers alive at the time of the rapture, from those who had already died and would have to wait for receiving their new bodies. It seems that the primary focus of the Thessalonian believers was the thought that to experience the rapture, one had to be alive. Therefore, the grief was the consequence of believing (incorrectly) that the dead in Christ would not participate in the rapture.3 If one considers the posttribulational view, it would seem that the focus of the posttribulationist should be upon the tribulation. If the church was taught that they would experience the seven years of tribulation, it would not be logical for them to be concerned about those who had died in Christ. It is extremely doubtful that the church would be grieving about those who were dead in Christ, but would rather be happy for them. For example,

when my uncle died recently, the memorial card stated how he was now experiencing peace and rest. My uncle was experiencing difficult medical conditions, and the card was focused upon the fact that his suffering had ended. His earthly pain had ceased, and my family was focused upon the end of painful medical conditions. (Of course, only those in Christ will experience peace and rest upon death.) Consider this example with regard to 1 Thessalonians 4. If the Thessalonian believers thought the church was going to experience the tribulation, they should be relieved that those who had died in Christ would not experience any of those seven years. The emphasis would be upon persevering through the tribulation, and not focused upon the dead in Christ. The focus of the believers was upon those who were not living, because they imagined one had to be alive at the time of the rapture to experience it, which is consistent with a pretribulational perspective. The concern of the Thessalonian believers simply does not coalesce with non-pretribulational views. Verse 14 reads, For if we believe [or literally, since we believe] that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep [died 4] in Jesus. The reality of the rapture in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 is related to the historicity of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The reality of Christs death and resurrection is evidence that the rapture will occur; the focus of verse 14 is upon the assurance that those in Christ will experience the rapture, and references with emphasis those who have fallen asleep in Jesus (i.e. those who have died in Christ).

THE CHURCHWILL BE RAPTURED

Sixty-nine weeks of Daniels prophecy have already been fulfilled with the nation of Israel, and it was a prophecy dealing with events that occurred to them historically. The remaining seventieth week of that prophecy is focused upon Israel, and it is therefore incongruent contextually to relate the church to those prophecies.

forth only, then all the dead would rise. Jesus spoke specifically, and said only, Lazarus, come forth (John 11). The rapture of the church will occur similarly because it is only the dead in Christ that will be resurrected. If the saints of all the ages who have died are resurrected at the time specified in 1 Thessalonians 4, it would conflict with other Scriptural passages that place the resurrection of Old Testament saints after the tribulation, and therefore receiving their glorified bodies in preparation for the millennium (Dan 12:2). The resurrection (rapture) of 1 Thessalonians 4 is prophesied for the church. It is important to understand that there are multiple times of resurrection that constitute the first resurrection of Revelation 20:1-6, which in context is referring to details following the second coming of Christ. Thereafter, verses 11-15 refer to the second death, or resurrection of the wicked. The first resurrection involves multiple times. First does not mean only one resurrection, but refers to a certain kind of resurrection (i.e. blessed and holy). Continuing in 1 Thessalonians 4, verse 15 reads, For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. When Paul wrote, we say to you by the word of the Lord, apparently he was indicating that he received this teaching directly from the Lord. The prophesy of the rapture was a doctrine previously unrevealed, which is why he em20

phasized that the teaching was by the authority of the Lord. The emphasis of thought upon the dead in Christ continues in this verse. Apparently, the believers thought that only the living would experience the rapture. First Thessalonians 4:13-18 addresses this concern. The teaching of Scripture is that neither the dead in Christ nor those who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will be in better position than the other, because all will be raised together with the Lord in the air. The dead in Christ and those who are alive and remain will be translated at the same coming of the Lord, so there will not be any advantage in that sense. Every regenerate member of the church whether deceased or livingwill receive their new resurrection bodies at that rapture. Verses 16-18 state clearly, For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. The teaching of these verses is the exact opposite if one was taught that he would experience any of the seven-year tribulation. As many believers will be martyred in the tribulation, it would not be a comforting thought. The promise of the churchs exemption from the tribulation is not a reward for the church, but it is simply something that God in His purposes has not destined to occur. The reason is that God has a specific purpose for the tribulation. He is focusing His attention primarily on Israel in preparation for the millennial kingdom. Therefore, another name for the tribulation is the seventieth week of Daniel (Dan 9:24-27). Sixtynine weeks of Daniels prophecy have already been fulfilled with the nation of Israel, and it was a prophecy dealing with events that occurred to them historically. The remaining seventieth week of that prophecy is focused upon Israel, and it is therefore incongruent contextually to relate the church to those prophecies.

The latter purpose is interesting currently, because when one considers the world of Christendom today, there are tremendous biblical failures. The extent of apostates and heresies that are tolerated today would have exasperated the early church, which was entirely dedicated to the preservation and promotion of sound doctrine (Jude 3).

THETRIBULATIONWITH REGARDTO ISRAEL

The focus of the tribulationthe seventieth week of Danielis upon God purging the rebel from among Israel. God will purge the rebels exactly as the prophet Zechariah indicated; namely that two-thirds of the Jewish people will perish in the tribulation, and only a third will persevere in faith to the end (Zech 13:8-9). This will be a fulfillment of Romans 11:25-27, which states that all Israel will be saved at the time of the second coming. At the end of the tribulation, all living Jews will be saved and will enter into the millennial kingdom on the basis of faith in King Jesus. The focus of the tribulation is preparing Israel to receive the Messiah, in fulfillment of the unconditional covenants that God made with the nation. God will also use the tribulation to judge the wicked among the Gentiles, the world. The latter purpose is interesting currently, because when one considers the world of Christendom today, there are tremendous biblical failures. The extent of apostates and heresies that are tolerated today would have exasperated the early church, which was entirely dedicated to the preservation and promotion of sound doctrine (Jude 3). It is interesting that among the Jewish people the Messianic movement continues to grow, which seems to indicate that God is removing their blindness to the Gospel. He blinded Israel to bring many Gentiles into salvation, and blinded His own people for the benefit of the nations (Rom 11:7-11). It seems today that God is returning the blindness to the Gentiles; that is, the nations are returning to their paganism, while something distinctive is occurring with the Jewish people as they search the prophecies in understanding (cf. Dan 12:4). The Jewish people are witnessing enormous activity in their homeland with discussion regarding the Temple Mount, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and alleged peace agreements. Whereas the Jewish people are asking questions about these things, many of the Gentiles are oblivious with regard to Gods eternal purposes for Israel.

THE HERALDING OFTHE LORDS RETURN

It does not appear with clarity in the biblical text whether the shout, the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet of God are one event or three events. They are obviously literal, and what they accomplish is to herald the Lords return from heaven, and to focus attention upon the fact that God will raise the dead and translate the living to receive glorified bodies. Beginning with Revelation 8, there is much focus upon the seven trumpets, and some attempt to relate the trumpet of God in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 with those trumpets of Revelation. However, there is no indication in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 that the Lord Himself will be descending in any manner after the seal and trumpet judgments of the tribulation. The emphasis of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 is that the rapture of the church is imminent; that is, it could occur at any moment without any events preceding it. Certainly, in the ancient world, trumpets were used to herald many things. There is a problem with saying that every trumpet has to be the same. For instance, the trumpet in 1 Thessalonians 4 heralds the rapture of the church, whereas the trumpets of Revelation herald the bowl judgments and that Christ will be returning to earth. There is not any reason to prevent one from concluding that 1 Thessalonians 4 and the Book of Revelation refer to multiple soundings of trumpets; it is similar to how the Greek words parousia, apokalupsis, and epiphaneia do not refer to one event but characterize two separate events.

RAPTURINGTHE CHURCHTO MEETTHE LORD

In verse 17, the Greek word translated caught up is $arpazw, which in the Latin Vulgate was translated by Jerome as rapiemur, from which the term rapture is derived. Rapture is a biblical term for the event when God resurrects and translates the church to meet the Lord in the air. The reason for this event is so that the church may go with Christ to heaven, where she will abide with Him in the place that Christ has prepared in

fulfillment of John 14:1-3. The language of both these passages is remarkably similar.

ture gives great importance to how believers live their lives and how the church proclaims the Gospel. It is also a tremendous comfort, as verse 18 states 1 THESSALONIANS 4:13-18 comfort one another so that you will not grieve (v. 13) with these words even so God (v. 14) because at any mobelieve that Jesus died and rose again (v. 14) ment we could be with for this we say to you (v. 15) the Lord and in His coming of the Lord (v. 15) presence. Therefore, do not waste time and caught up (v. 17) opportunity, but live to meet the Lord (v. 17) holy and diligently we shall always be with the Lord (v. 17) unto the Lord.

Other passages will focus upon receiving rewards at the judgment seat of Christ, and the need to await return with the Lord Jesus at the second coming to earth to rule and reign. Nevertheless, the teaching of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 is that the entire seven-year tribulation for the church will be in heaven, not on the earth, which is a tremendous comfort, and certainly even more so because it could happen at any moment. The doctrine of the rapture places a tremendous emphasis upon living ones life in holy and diligent expectation of the Lords return. At any moment, the church could be in the presence of our God and Savior, which should motivate believers to live holy and pure lives, because that is always the emphasis of the doctrine of the rapture in Scripture. The doctrine is always used with the sense of living a holy and a godly life, because at any moment the church could appear in the Lords presence; believers, therefore, are to maintain an active ministry for the Lords glory and honor, not wasting time and opportunity. At any moment, the church could be in the Lords presence and each will need to give an account of ones life. How did we use the gifts the Holy Spirit gave us? How did we serve the Lord as His bondslaves? Were we just merely attending worship on a weekly basis, and satisfied with warming a pew, as opposed to being active in serving the Lord? CONCLUSION
The teaching of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 is a comfort to believers. Scripture teaches that the dead in Christ will not be excluded from participation in the rapture with those who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord Jesus (cf. 1 Cor 15:50-58). The dead in Christ will rise first, then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air. The rapture is indeed imminent (preceding the seven-year tribulation), which is a great comfort to believers. Therefore, as 1 Thessalonians 4:135:11 teaches, the church is to be ready always to meet the Lord and to be with Him forever. (382) ENDNOTES

Last-Day Oppressors: Honored Elites & an Indebted World Order Part II

In this issue, we continue from Part I in which we began to review three major conditions that the Bible indicates will typify the world order at the very end of the last days. We were pursuing the question of whether government debt plays a prophetic role. We had been drawn to this question, given the unprecedented rise of government debt around the world over the last few years. To date we have reviewed one of these a priori conditionsa worldwide wealth skew.
2. Indebtedness as a Necessary Device. The idea that economies
can be regulated and managed without losses or periodic downturns is born of a world that seeks its salvation in materialism. Such a world is not possible during this dispensation. Governments who support this idea with interventions and hocus-pocus policies will find themselves in deeper debt as never before. This is what we see unfolding, and it is a necessary aspect of a widening wealth skew. As already pointed out, for someone to become rich, someone else must be coaxed or foolish enough to become steeply indebted or indentured. Here, as we see, indebted governments play a facilitating role of transferring wealth from the masses to the rich. But, does the Bible support the idea that the antichrist system will be an indebted entity? Actually, our understanding on this question first came from reading the prophecies of Habakkuk. Carefully consider these verses:
For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. See, he is puffed up; his desires are not uprightbut the righteous will live by his

Woe to him who piles up stolen goods and makes himself wealthy by extortion! (verse 6). Woe to him who builds his realm by unjust gain, to set his nest on high, to escape the clutches of ruin! (verse 9). Habakkuks prophecies could not provide a more accurate description of the worlds emerging ruling structure of our times, and perhaps yet in the future. It is built upon greed, oppression and extortion, taking the world captive through a financial and economic trap, as well as by other means. But there is one additional insight that Habakkuk provides us. It is the condition of indebtedness. The endtime ruling order is an indebted one. Will not your debtors suddenly arise? Will they not wake up and make you tremble? Then you will become their victim (Habakkuk 2:7). Debtors can be correctly translated as creditors. The KJV better reflects the condition of the wicked foes indebtedness, saying, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! (verse 6). 3. Emergence of Rich Elites. Now that we have documented the two conditions of a wealth skew and an indebted world order, we come to the question of the identity of the rich elites. The Prophet Daniel speaks of them in the same verse that also refers to the Antichrist: And he [the Antichrist] shall deal with the strongest fortresses by the help of a foreign god: whosoever acknowledgeth him he will increase with glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for a price (Daniel 11:39, ASV). Who are them that will increase with glory and rule over many, and play a role in the dividing of land for a price? The answerthose that acknowledge him, the Antichrist (which can also mean the Antichrist system of

faithindeed, wine betrays him; he is arrogant and never at rest. Because he is as greedy as the grave and like death is never satisfied, he gathers to himself all the nations and takes captive all the peoples. Will not all of them taunt him with ridicule and scorn, saying, Woe to him who piles up stolen goods and makes himself wealthy by extortion! How long must this go on?' Will not your debtors suddenly arise? Will they not wake up and make you tremble? Then you will become their victim. Because you have plundered many nations, the peoples who are left will plunder you. For you have shed man's blood; you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them (Chapter 2:3-8, NIV).

Here, the prophet Habakkuk sheds some light on our questions. Although his prophecies were probably first directed to the Babylon of his day, they clearly also had an endtime application. The Lord answered him, For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false (Habakkuk 2:3). We also see the character of the Antichrist of the end period described. Greed and economic oppression are the prominent characteristics portrayed. The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks, he catches them in his net, he gathers them up in his dragnet; and so he rejoices and is glad. Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, for by his net he lives in luxury and he enjoys the choicest food (Habakkuk 1:15-16). He (or the world system, the economic Babylon of Revelation 18) is a trapper. Moreover, [] he is greedy as the grave and like death is never satisfied, he gathers to himself all the nations and takes captive all the peoples (Habakkuk 2:5-6). This endtime regime is motivated by greed and is global in span, as it takes all the nations and all the peoples captive.

world rule). Virtually all English Bible translations use the word acknowledge. It means here that certain key people who recognize him and accept his authority will receive a reward land. It should be noted that the original Aramaic word used for land in this verse can also convey the idea of property or economic domain as well as geographic area. After all, in ancient times, land was the main foundation of wealth and economy. It only follows that these elites, whoever they are, must be a small group of people who likely will be influential in their own right. Why? They will be made rulers over many. As not everyone can be made a ruler over many, therefore these will be few. Not only is this logical, but the Bible also specifically tell us what the reward will be for everybody else in other words, all the rest of the masses that acknowledge and worship the Antichrist. They will not be killed (a negative reward) and will be allowed to buy or sell. He causes, [] all who refused to worship the image to be killed. He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell (Revelation 13:15-16). The elites, on the other hand, are bought off for their loyalty with further reward the additional pay-off of power or economic domain, we reason. It is the same or similar deal that Satan offered Christ when he was being tested in the wilderness, promising [] authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours (Luke 4:6-7). These elites selected for reward must have something to barter in return likely their fame or endorsement. We are given at least a few criteria with which

to identify who these elites might be at that future date. In the first instance, they must be humans. Also, they must be capable of being rulers, already likely possessing some measure of power and authority. And, they must be willing worldly complicitors. Although these events play out during the future Tribulation period (and therefore really do not concern us), is it already possible today to discern the power structures that these elites might command? Of course, we can only speculate as to whom these persons may be that the Prophet Daniel mentions. One possibility is that they could be powerful heads of large multinational corporations (MNC). After all, some of these companies are already today larger than many individual nations in terms of their commercial influence and economic footprint. (Please see the article, The Rising Price of Obedience in the March 2005 Midnight Call magazine, which provides some documentation of the endtime significance of the MNC phenomena a relatively recent development in the cosmic timeline of mankind.) Multinational firms (MNCs) today, as a group, are probably the most influential economic force in the world. And, as money is power in this age, they may also be the most powerful, viewed as a group. realize that our Enemy is cunning and a supreme master of deception. A Calculated Conspiracy Against God We can deduce from the Bible that there are essentially three main sets of players that the Bible identifies in the Mammon-controlled saga of the last day world. There is a world government that at one point takes the form of ten nations, later to be headed by the Antichrist himself (The Beast). These are the 10 horns mentioned in Revelation 17:12. The preferred interpretation of this author is that these will be key nations, most likely heavily indebted (as many leading countries today already are), that band together to aggregate sufficient power to establish world rule. These nations have (must have) the complicity of the rich elites. For nations to be heavily indebted, there must also be corresponding lenders and cronies. And, given that the Bible also tells us of a great heaping of wealth (Please see Part I for further explanation), we can therefore know that it will be a relatively few number of peoplethe ultra-rich who will underpin the indebtedness of the nations with their claims upon wealth. All of these tendencies we see already at work today. Thoughts to Ponder There was a time [] that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually (Genesis 6:5). God saw no other way but to intervene and end it. Today, the world is fast approaching a similar state. Bible prophecy clearly outlines that God again will intervene in the affairs of mankind in wrath. In another vein, the times today are similar to Babel. Some secular analysts do foresee the day where a small group of such corporate behemoths will indeed dominate the world economy. Or, these elites could simply be ultrarich individuals who control much wealth perhaps entire industries and many MNCs. It is in their self-interest to support the regime of the Antichrist. In their materialist worldview, preservation of their wealth must be the primary objective. They could not have reached their ultra-wealthy status without governments having also facilitated such enormous wealth transfer either through economic policy or increasing indebtedness. These governments are in cahoots with the ultra-wealthy princes, much in the same way as is foreshadowed by the corrupt relationships today between the Washington Beltway and Wall Street in America, for example. We cannot conclusively determine the identity of the elites that Daniel mentions. This shouldnt be disappointing. The only wise and sure conclusion is that we must keep our options open keeping ourselves oriented to the Scriptures; watching and waiting for our Lords return, so as to not be distracted nor caught sleeping. It causes us to keep watching, to not be taken unawares, and to remain open to new information. The worlds power structures do keep shifting. Though [] we have the word of the prophets made more certain (2 Peter 1:19), at the same time, we must also

ancient times when [...] they said, Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth (Genesis 11:4). Globalism is counter to the will of God, as evidenced by His supernatural intervention at Babel, causing people to disperse and confounding their efforts with different languages. Ah, yes, but we have heard countless endtime admonitions all before. Have not the processes we have identified here already been long underway? Yes, but with some key differences that should immediately quell the scoffers spirit. Firstly, we are the generation that would see all these things, as Christ said (Matthew 24:33). The fig tree (Israel) has begun to blossom. When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near (Mark 13:28). This season can be identified, and it is here. And, there will be no false starts of this prophesied event, a process that once begun, will not be aborted. Says the Holy Spirit through Isaiah:
Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child. Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the Lord: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God (Chapter 66:7-9, KJV).

conditions are global in scale rather than applying to just one or a few nations. These conditions can all be shown to be accelerating. Moreover, God had future scoffers exactly in mind when he caused the Apostle Peter to prophesy:
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished (2 Peter 3:3-6).

People who have no fear before the words of God, thereby ridiculing the Great Sovereignwho stakes the very proof of his essence in bringing about what He has said in advanceput themselves into the company of those [] natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak[ing] evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption [] (2 Peter 2:12). We today can clearly see mankind choosing to continue its journey toward judgment and wrath. MC

The study was actually referring to the top-5 crisis countries (the U.S., UK, Ireland, Iceland and Spain) rather than the entire world.

Can Climate Forecasts Still Be Trusted?

First, it was a series of emails that led many to begin doubting the veracity of climate scientists. Then, the United Nations climate body itself had to reverse dire predictions about the melting of glaciers in the Himalayan Mountains. Other claims have raised doubts as well.
The Siachen Glacier is home to the worlds highest crisis region. Here, at 6,000 meters (19,680 feet) above sea level, Indian and Pakistani soldiers face off, ensconced in heavily armed positions. Now the Himalayan glacier is at the center of a scientific dispute. In its current report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicts that the glacier, which is 71 kilometers (44 miles) long, could disappear by 2035. It also predicts that the other 45,000 glaciers in the worlds highest mountain range will be virtually gone by then, with drastic consequences for billions of people in Asia, whose life depends on water that originates in the Himalayas. The IPCC report led environmental activists to sound the alarm about a drama that could be unfolding at the worlds third pole. This prognosis is, of course, complete nonsense, says John Shroder, a geologist and expert on glaciers at the University of Nebraska in Omaha. The results of his research tell a completely different story. For the past three decades, the US glaciologist has been traversing the majestic mountains of the Himalayan region, particularly the Karakorum Range, with his measuring instruments. The discoveries he has made along the way are not consistent with the assessment long held by the IPCC. While many glaciers are shrinking, others are stable and some are even growing, says Shroder. The gaffe over the Himalayan glaciers has triggered an outcry in the world of climatology. Some are already using the word Glaciergate in reference to the scandal over a scientifically untenable claim in the fourth IPCC assessment report, which the UN climtate body publishes every five years. The fourth assessment report was originally published in 2007. The IPCC recently withdrew the erroneous claim and apologized for the error. German Environment Minister Norbert Rttgen, a member of the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU), is also upset about the incident. The error in the IPCC report is serious and should not have happened, Rttgen told Spiegel. Scientific accuracy is a vital condition to support the credibility of the political conclusions we draw as a result. Although the minister still has confidence in the overall validity of the IPCC report, he wants to see a thorough investigation into how the error originated and was communicated. But why wasnt this clearly nonsensical claim noticed long ago by at least one of the 3,000 scientists who contributed to the IPCC report? Whats really amazing is that such a blunder remained uncorrected for so long, says Shroder. To err is human, say IPCC officials like Ottmar Edenhofer of the Potsdam institute for Climate Impact Research, We shouldnt question the credibility of an almost 3,000-page report because of one error. Unfortunately, the questions about the IPCC and its president come at a time when the credibility of climatologists has already suffered, partly as a result of the theft of confidential e-mail messages written by scientists, the content of which has led critics to claim that data were manipulated. Although none of these incidents negate the evidence supporting climate change, facts ceased to be the focus of the acrimonious debate long ago. Instead, it now revolves around questions of belief. Confidence in the authority of the science of climatology is currently eroding in the public consciousness, says Roger Pielke Jr., an American social economist and expert on natural disasters. Environmental economist Richard Tol agrees, saying: Criticism of climate research has become fashionable. And the British science journal Nature warns that climatologists can no longer assume that solid evidence alone will convince the public.

We only publish excerpts from this detailed report to show that mans ability, with all his modern scientific instruments, is still at a loss to explain the variables of global climate patterns. We are reminded here of the questions the Lord God asked Job, which he could not answer: Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war? By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth? Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder; To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man; To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew? Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it? The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen (Job 38:22-30). Quite apparently, modern science cannot answer these questions either. Again, we must quote the Lords covenant He made with Noah after the flood: While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease (Genesis 8:22). 3734

Parliament to Reject Bank Data Agreement with US

The European Parliament is likely to spike a deal which would allow US terrorism investigators access to European bank transfer data. Privacy advocates oppose the deal and Germanys Federal Criminal Police Office says the data profiling is ineffective in counterterrorism efforts.
At the center of the debate is data used by the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Transactions (SWIFT), the company that conducts almost all international bank transfers. Previously the US could access Europeans SWIFT data because the companys servers were located in the US. However, under pressure from data protection officials across Europe, the company now conducts European wire transfers from the Netherlands and Switzerland, and the European Union must provide its approval before any of the sensitive data can be shared. Washington and officials in a number of European countries argue the data is needed to effectively combat terrorism. The German justice minister recently asked the Federal Police Agency (BKA) to review the efficacy of accessing the SWIFT data. In its assessment, the agency said giving the US access to SWIFT data is useless in the fight against terror. The agency argued the amount of information yielded from the
SWIFT handles some 15 million international money transfers each day.

In terms of combating politically motivated crime, a BKA paper stated, there is no technical requirement or operational interest in a systematic verification of the SWIFT database. The interim deal, which goes into effect on February 1 and would be effective until October, would give counterterrorism officials access to peoples international wire transfer transactions. The US has been examining transactions handled by SWIFT since the 9/11 attacks in New

York and Washington. SWIFT, which is headquartered in Belgium, recently moved data from US servers to European soil. With far stricter privacy laws in many European countries, the US would need permission from the EU before it could be given access to this sensitive information. SWIFT handles 15 million transfers a day between over 8,000 banks and other financial institutions.

The Future Is Ecumenical

The way of the future for the Christian faith, according to German President Horst Khler, stands under the banner of ecumenism. Only in unity can Christians practice their faith, stated Khler on 15 January 2010, in Hildesheim. The ecumenical worship service was held to celebrate the 1,000th birthday of the Michaeliskirche (St. Michaels Church). This late Roman masterpiece was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site together with the Catholic Mariendom (St. Marys Cathedral) in 1985. The Michaeliskirche is named after the archangel Michael and is utilized by Lutherans and Catholics. President Horst Khler signed the 635-meter ribbon, which was richly decorated with sayings and pictures on the 1,000-year history of St. Michaels Church by 1,000 students of the Catholic high school Josephinum.

Unity between Catholics and Lutherans is for all practical purposes a reality. It is to be expected, as not only Churchianity with its innumerable denominations, but also all other religions will be added to manifest a union, according to Revelation 13:8: And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him [An3763 tichrist].

The ongoing battle against terrorism, in particular the recent attempt to blow up a passenger airliner over the United States, simply show that intelligence gathering mechanisms are not sufficient yet. Quite obviously, this is due to the fact that not all nations are fully participating, and those who are considered allies in the war against terrorism are not in full agreement with each other. But when viewing this matter from casualty statistics, one must come to the conclusion that airline travel is actually very safe. When we compare the numbers with traffic fatalities or crime statistics, then the security issues relating to air traffic become virtually invisible on the radar screen of danger. Yet the slightest irregular action anywhere in the world in the airline industry is broadcast far and wide. What is the reason, we may ask? The answer is rather simple: Terrorism is a great contributor toward the unifying of the world. This case primarily deals with bank data, which is actually the most important, because without money, terrorists would be unable to carry out their plans. And speaking of money, it is just another way for the various governments to collect all available data from every person in the world. 3739

Local Government Banning Implanted Tracking Devices

The House of Delegates (VA) voted for a bill that would ban the forced implantation of tracking devices in people; with supporters citing both privacy concerns and religious prophecy.
I personally dont care why a person objects, they should not be coerced under the threat of possible loss of employment to take an implant, said Cole, R-Spotslvania. Most people objected chiefly on privacy reasons the fear of their whereabouts being electronically pinpointed at all timesand long-term health concerns. Some, Cole said, had religious objections, including those rooted in Christian teachings of an Antichrist who would compel followers to wear the mark of the beast. There are Christian and Jewish groups and possibly others that do not believe the body should be violated, period, Cole said. Democratic Del. David Englin of Alexandria agreed, citing his Jewish faith. There are Orthodox Jewish women who wont even get their ears pierced because they consider it to be a defiling of the body, Ebbin said. I do think there are religious components of this bill that go well beyond this mark of the beast business.

The Decline of the US Dollar

Brazil and Uruguay may damage their relations with the USA. The governments of these two countries recently signed an agreement about the transition to local currencies in bilateral trade. According to both Brazil and Uruguay, the new measure is to stimulate regional integration of Latin American countries.
Besides, they expect that sidelining the US dollar will facilitate the increase of the goods exchange and ease the trade. They have the following arguments: now Brazil and Uruguay will be able to avoid possible losses caused by currency exchange difference. Earlier, outrageous Hugo Chavez, Venezuelas leader, approached Latin American countries with the initiative to abandon the US dollar. As we can see, he was heard by the left wing. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is considered a moderate socialist who was more than once seen amicably embracing Chavez. Uruguays Jos Alberto Mujica Cordano is much more radical. Is the decision of Brazil and Uruguay to abandon the US dollar in bilateral trade justified from an economic and political viewpoint? Experts Vadim Toperman and Valery Garbuzov shared their opinions with Pravda.ru. Vadim Toperman, Director of the Center for Economic Research of the Institute for Latin American countries: The decision of Brazil and Uruguay to abandon the US dollar in bilateral trade was not a big sensation. The Russian government recently stated that it may do the same thing. In September of the last year, Brazil signed a similar agreement with Argentina. Reciprocal payments in Brazilian reals and Argentinean pesos began as early as 2007, and in 2008 it was legally recorded. Abandonment of the US dollar is beneficial for both Brazil and Uruguay since the trade between these two countries is constantly growing. This provokes technical difficulties. The main reason is economical, not political. Lately, the US dollar has an unstable reputation, and its exchange rate to the Brazilian real and Uruguayan peso changes daily, which makes trading difficult and causes losses. Valery Garbuzov, Head of Foreign Policy Department of the Institute for the USA and Canadian Studies: This was another demonstration of the general Latin American tendency to abandon American currency. It began with Venezuela, which had been hatching this plan for a while. Chavezs appeals to abandon the US dollar were heard as early as in 2007. He was supported by Cuba and other allies in the region. The reason for this was not economic at all. This was a reflection of the political situation. This is a way for governments of a number of counties to demonstrate their anti-Americanism. Their leaders do not think much about the economic and political consequences of these decisions. For them, the most important thing is the beginning. However, it is hardly likely that they will be able to fully abandon the US dollar since all countries in the region are somehow linked to the American currency.

Lawsuit Calls Yoga Chain a Cult

The cheering was raucous and the applause thunderous for a man who makes few public appearances.
As he made his way gingerly across a gravel park, where he had just dedicated a nearly 40-foot statue representing the Soul of the Earth, a voice shouted out: I love you, Ilchi Lee. Lee, a South Korean businessman, is the founder of a national chain of yoga and wellness centers called Dahn Yoga. The company teaches that its physical exercises can restore the vibrations of the body and brain to their original, healthy frequencies, according to a video introduction on its Web site. But Dahn Yoga is now defending itself from allegations by former employees that it is a totalistic, high-demand cult group that demands large sums of money from its followers and enshrines Lee as an absolute spiritual and temporal leader. A lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Arizona, says that recruits are unknowingly subjected to an intensive program of psychological manipulation, indoctrination and various techniques of coercive thought reform designed to induce them to become Ilchi Lees disciples and devote themselves to serving him and his vision. Jade Harrelson, one of more than two dozen plaintiffs in the lawsuit, said Dahn leaders prey upon people like me who are ignorant about the way money works. The company denies the allegations and calls the plaintiffs disgruntled former employees. In our 30-year history, we have helped millions of people lead healthier and happier lives, corporate spokesman Joseph Alexander told CNN. Dahn Yoga set up its first shop in the United States in 1991, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It now has 127 storefront centers in the United States, more than 1,000 worldwide, and Forbes magazine estimates the companys 2009 profits at $34 million. Dahn Yoga teaches that what it calls brain wave vibration can ease some of the debilitating symptoms of illnesses such as diabetes and arthritis. Its publicity materials feature praise for Lee from a variety of sources, including Oscar Arias, Costa Ricas president and a Nobel Peace Prize winner; and Broadway producer/choreographer Tommy Tune. In addition, Elkhonon Goldberg, a clinical professor of neurology at New York Universitys medical school, praises the work of the International Brain Education Association, a group Lee founded. China is exploring the possibility of extending its high-speed train network as far as Europe, potentially cutting rail travel time between London and Beijing to as little as two days.
Officials hope to see the project completed over the next ten years, enabling passengers to travel the roughly 8,000 kilometer journey at speeds of up to 320 kilometers per hour. Wang Mengshu, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a senior consultant on Chinas domestic high-speed railways, said that work on the Southeast Asia line had already begun. Ark of the Covenant Dear Editor Froese, I humbly come before you with my concern, because Im sure you are much more knowledgeable about the Bible than I. Even though Im 91 years old, write a weekly devotional, and have studied the Bible since my youthIm still not sure that I always have the correct understanding of some spiritual matters, such as the one I want to confront you with. Some time in the past, I received one of your publications. Its a book with the title, 119 Most Frequently Asked Questions About Prophecy. On page 48, someone asked this question, Where is the Ark of the Covenant? Your answer to them was, It was probably seized and eventu38

ally destroyed. You also mentioned that many recovery reports have been found to be hoax[es], which is true. You also gave the Scripture reference of Jeremiah 3:16, and said it no longer exists. Now my understanding of that verse is that they were advised to forget about it, and thered be no more visits with it. However, I cannot find any Scripture that says it was destroyed. Recently, I have been doing extensive research on this subject. Its disappearance is noted in The Wycliffe Bible Commentary on page 662. Also, an account is given in the Pictorial Bible Dictionary on page 70edited by some Wheaton College editors, scholars, and experts in various fields. Their description says the beginning

of the Ark of the Covenant was in Exodus 25:10-22. They mention its possible destruction later. I have just completed a fantastic journey through the pages of the Old Testamentsearching for every bit of knowledge regarding the Ark of the Covenant that I can possibly find. Ive not been able to find any evidence of its destruction. There was evidence of its disappearance when the first temple (Solomons Temple), was destroyed by the Babylonians when they burned Jerusalem in 587 B.C. Page 1061 of the Ungers Bible Dictionary gave these comments in regard to its disappearance: A striking Hebrew tradition exists as to the Ark of the Covenant: That it was taken by Jeremiah and hid in a secret place in a cavern (II Macc. 2:48), at the time of the Babylonian capture of the city; and that its hiding place has never been found, and never will be, until Messiah shall set up His kingdom and restore the glory of Israel. There are other rabbinical tales of similar character, but not deserving of attention. My journey began in the beginning with the Arks description as it was put together in Exodus 25:10-22, and didnt end until Jeremiah 3:16, where the Lord said no more would be said about the Ark. Thered be no need to keep it in mind or visit it, because after that time Jerusalem would be called the

Lords throne, and all nations would gather there in the name of the Lord. God promised to heal their evil and backsliding ways if they called on Him. So many exciting things happened along the journey in the wilderness regarding the Ark that proved Gods power and His love, as it found resting places for them (Numbers 10:33). Space will not allow me to say all the knowledgeable and exciting things that Id like to say about the Ark of the Covenant. Maybe sometime, I can put together a booklet with all the beautiful stories and get them published. Now as I close, I want to express my concern and give you my question. My concern has to do with all the confusion as to what happened to the Ark. Where is it now? Some think it was destroyed. So many misconceptions still exist. I am not confused or uncertain, because I believe what John said when he wrote the book of Revelation. I believe the Ark of the Covenant is in heaven. In Revelation 11:19, this is what John said: And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in His temple the Ark of His Covenant; and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunder claps, and an earthquake, and giant hail. So I believe its possible that God rescued the Ark when Solomons temple was demolished during Jerusalems destruction, and took it to

heaven. Whether it was with Jeremiahs help, we may never know. But it got there. Its safe, and I believe its in heaven. Ill appreciate any new light you can shed on the subject. So, what do you think? Am I missing something in this verse? God bless you and keep you going.

Answer: You are correct, there is no scriptural evidence that the Ark was destroyed, but because of the excessive number of conspiracy theories, I am convinced that the Ark is no more. In Hebrews 7:12 we read: For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. Hebrews 8:13 says: In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. The Ark of the Covenant has fulfilled its purpose. There is no reason to assume that God somehow raptured the physical polluted Ark of the Covenant into heaven. Of course, there still is a question about the new Temple. Will there be a new Ark of the Covenant? If so, I believe Israel will just make a new one.

At this time, I would like to ask two questions: Why are there so many variants of Scriptures that seem to contradict or take away from the words of God? If our Bible is infallible, then why are there so many mistakes within its contents? I wont point out any here, but if you desire so, I will find a few. My purpose in writing this question is not to debate; I just write out of concern. I would also like to ask, were there dinosaurs with Adam, and how does that fit in with the fossil records found? I am always referred to Job, where it apparently speaks about a creature that fits the description of a dinosaur. Please feel free to include your position of such into your letter section. Otherwise, it is simple foolishness, as is stated in 1 Corinthians 2:14: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. When a born again person reads Holy Scripture, regardless of language or translation, the Holy Spirit conveys the clear content, which is far superior than any words composed of letters. It is my opinion that the dinosaurs were extinguished during Noahs flood. There is much literature lately regarding evolution and creation. According to the Genesis report, God created everything approximately 6,000 years ago. For an unbeliever, that is foolishness, but for a believer, it is an irrevocable fact.

Answer: After God created man, He said, It was very good. But when sin entered, man became imperfect, blemished. However, Gods grace provided a temporary escape from judgment; thats what the Old Testament is all about. The priest, the sacrifice, the tabernacle, and later the Temple were a demonstration of visible actions to temporarily cover the sins of Israel. Way back in the beginning, God prepared a way of escape. He prepared a way that judgment would be executed upon His Son Jesus Christ, as a ransom for the redemption of lost mankind. The blood of Jesus takes away sin, while the blood of animals only covers sin. Because the service was manifested visibly, anyone blemished was excluded from the priests office. God did not blemish the individual, sin did.

Answer: Keith Harris quotes material from books authored and endorsed by Freemasons. If you insist that such literature is fiction, then you need to produce other Freemason literature that expose the first as fiction. The issue is not whether Masonry is good or evil; after all, the United States was founded primarily on the principles of Freemasons. Over 30% of the Founding Fathers belonged to the Lodge, including George Washington. We also recognize the benevolent work done by the various lodges. However, at stake is whether Freemasonry is a religion or not. The testimony of your own literature clearly declares Masonry to be a religion. Based on that fact, we are duty bound to expose any teaching that presupposes to show its members the way of salvation outside the one exclusive way, and that is Jesus Christ.

Protocols of Zion Dear Mr. Froese: Currently, I am searching for information on the Protocols supposedly written by the Elders of Zion. But a Russian historian has disclosed that the Protocols were concocted by the Russian czars secret police. Why? To magnify the image of the Jews as the devil and to stir anti-Jewish sentiment, according to an article, This Lie Will Not Die in the April 1995 issue of Readers Digest, page 115. These Protocols would have been written before World War I. On the basis of these Protocols, Hitler told his followers, The people (Jews) are to be reduced to submission by hunger, and of course he used the gas chambers, too. According to the Readers Digest article, and also as told on a documentary of Henry Ford that I saw recently, Henry Ford the automaker ran the Protocols in his Dearborn, Michigan newspaper and later published them in a book called The International Jew: The Worlds Foremost Problem. For some people, the influence of the Protocols, which spread hatred for the Jewish people, continues today almost 100 years later. As recently reported on a radio station, there is a resurgence of anti-Semitism around the world. Can you explain why the Protocols havent been exposed to inform more people who composed them (the Russians) to hurt the Jewish peo-

ple? And to publicize how the Protocols even influence todays anti-Semitism and war against Israel? Can you share additional information on the Protocols than what I have written in this letter? Answer: Unfortunately, I have never read the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, but from the various commentaries about this paper, I gather that it is an outline of how the Jews plan to conquer the world. There is some truth to every rumor. For example, the Freemasons, the Illuminati, the Bilderbergers, the Council of Foreign Relations, the Club of Rome, and innumerable other movements and organizations aim to unify the world and create a peaceful, prosperous, and secure society. This intellectual thought is to be found in all countries of the world, for everyone wants peace and freedom. The U.S.A. too assumes that if all nations in the world were to follow its guidelines, then peace and security would follow. Of course, we know that it is impossible for the world to create peace. Why? Because peace has a price, and no one can pay for it except one person, and that is Jesus Christ our

Lord. The Bible says that He is our peace. Jesus not only was, but is and always will be the greatest Jew. He said, Salvation is of the Jews; therefore, the nations of the world, which are guided by Lucifer, the god of this world, must oppose Gods plan of salvation. Thus the writing, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Now the question, will the Jews dominate? Absolutely! For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth (Deuteronomy 14:2). Read also Zechariah 8:23: Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you. That indeed is world dominion. Almost 3,500 years ago, Moses prophesied Israels dispersion into all nations and their subsequent persecution: And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all nations whither the LORD shall lead thee (Deuteronomy 28:37). Many prophets speak of the regathering. Zephaniah writes: At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD (3:20). (See also Ezekiel 34:13). The hate of the nations against Israel is self-evident. There is not one country on planet Earth that would agree with Israels boundaries as set forth by God in an unconditional

covenant He made with Abraham in Genesis 15:18. Sometimes, the hate of a nation is extreme, as evidenced, for example, by Iranian President Ahmadinejad. In other cases, this hate is politically covered, such as by the United States. But in reality, Israel has no allies and never will, because the Bible says so. Genesis 12:3 does not speak of a collective blessing but of the personal and individual. God will curse him that curseth thee. If this promise were to apply collectively, then the Soviet Union would have been the most blessed nation on planet Earth because of their active help during the days of Israels founding in 1948. Under the auspices of the USSR, the Jews received a significant volume of weapons, including planes, so they could defend themselves. No other country came to their aid. Yet the Soviet Union is no more.

Arminianism Dear Mr. Froese, First, I want to thank you for answering my letter. It was and is appreciated. Next, I would like to point out to you that Jehovahs Witnesses, Mormons, and most all other religions are Arminians, just like you apparently are. They are not like me, as I agree with the worlds greatest Bible scholars. To name just a few: C. H. Spurgeon, A. W. Pink, John Gill, J. P . Boyce, A. H. Strong, J. M. Pendleton, B. H. Carroll, J. A. Broadus, Andrew Fuller, John Bunyan, J. R. Graves, and a host of others. I can assure you that I believe in John 3:16 just as strongly as you do. However,

I do not agree with the interpretation the Arminians give it. The word world has many different meanings. I believe the world God loved in John 3:16 is the world of whosoever believethNOT the world of whosoever believeth not (John 3:18 and Matthew 7:13). And no can believe in Christ for salvation unless they are drawn by the Father (John 6:44 and 65), and unless they were chosen from the beginning by God (2 Thessalonians 2:13) and ordained to eternal life (Acts 13:48). Yes, make no mistake about it, salvation is of the Lord (Jonah 2:9). We are saved by Gods will, not our will (John 1:13). God makes us willing (Psalm 110:3 and Philippians 2:13). I am so thankful for sovereign grace because without it, no one would ever be saved. Think on these things. It is so easy to go with the flow (Arminianism), but I prefer to swim against the tide if I have to defend sovereign grace.

to be a horrible joke if God determined by pre-selection to send all to the lake of fire, except for Calvinists. Does Gods clearly expressed will to have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth need your authoritative interpretation to make it understandable? God created man in His own image, with his own free will to sin or not to sin. That message is still valid today. Man can say yes to Jesus or no. The moment he says yes, God endows such a person with His saving faith. This is evident from Ephesians 1:13: In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise. The fact that predestination is taught in Holy Scripture is not subject to denial, but careful reading reveals that predestined is only applicable after one has turned to Jesus and is born of His Spirit, but NEVER before. Man on earth can at no time say, I am not predestined. Anyone at any time, any place, has the capacity to believe in Jesus. Oswald Chambers writes in Daily Thoughts for Disciples, 7 November the following, One of the most immutable things on earth is mutability. Your life and mine is a bundle of chance. It is absurd to say it is foreordained for you to have so many buttons on your tunic, and if that is not foreordained, then nothing is. If things were foreordained, there would be no sense of responsibility at all Jesus Christ undertakes to do everything a person cannot do, but not what a person can do.

Let us choose to stay with Holy Scripture: And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely (Revelation 22:17).

Satan Cast Out Dear Mr. Froese, I am a fan of your Letters to the Editor, as well as the rest of the magazine. I am also a believer in the idea that we as Christians do not have to go through any of the tribulation, and I thought that you were too. But in a letter in the February copy of the Midnight Call, you expressed that Satan was to be permanently thrown out of heaven, something that seems to indicate differently. You said that when the Church is raptured, then Satan would be thrown down to earth in a rage, and start trying to destroy all Jews. That seems to be about Mid-Tribulation, as verse 14 in Revelation 12 says the woman (meaning the Jews), would be given wings to fly to her place and be nourished for a time, times, and half a time (or three and a half years). That would leave the Church as having been on earth for the first half of the tribulation period. I know that there are several places in the Bible that say the Church will not be subject to the wrath of God. This could mean after death, but I have always taken it to mean the wrath of the

tribulation times on earth. I know that the first half of the tribulation is before the Antichrist shows his real character by entering the worship place and declaring himself as God, but it would still be in the period when God shows His wrath on a defiant world, which the Church is not. I would like to know your thoughts on this subject, and if you believe the Rapture is in Mid-Tribulation. Thanks again for your input on so many questions.

Answer: The Rapture takes place before the Great Tribulation begins. When the Church is complete, she will be raptured into the presence of the Lord. Subsequently, Satan loses his job: accusing the brethren before God day and night. Satan is the great deceiver. Although he will create peace, prosperity and security on earth, it is temporary. I can well imagine that the infrastructure of all churches will continue to function. The same thing will be true with the Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, atheists and others. Israel too will joyfully acknowledge the wonderful peace Antichrist has created. Remember what Jesus said, If another come in my name, him ye will re-

ceive. Thats not accomplished by force but by deception. Only during the second part of the tribulation will Antichrist reveal himself. Then those who do not worship his image will suffer persecution and be killed. The devil is the father of lies, the great deceiver, and he uses the seven years of the Great Tribulation to accomplish his great wrath. The first 3 years are used to establish him as the supreme ruler of planet Earth, the god of this world. The second 3 years are used to enforce his authority and eliminate all opposition. Revelation 12:14 documents Israels supernatural escape from the serpent: for a time and times and half a timethats 3 years. But

during the entire 7 years, the Church cannot be on earth because the Great Tribulation serves as destructive judgment upon those who refused the truth. Before the Rapture, we as believers must go through much tribulation in manifold ways, but not unto destruction, rather unto correction and salvation. In summary, when the light of the world is taken out, darkness will have its heyday. Then the world will literally experience what it means to have hell on earth. Yet we must repeat, the first 3 years will be glorious, but not the second 3 years. Let us reemphasize that the Great Tribulation unto destruction cannot occur until the Church is removed.
