Mason Keller 10/10/13 FRT-13-M Annotated Bibliography Russell, B., & Denonn, L. E. (1952).

Bertrand Russell's dictionary of mind, matter, and morals. New York: Philosophical Library. This source is a list of several philosophical ideas and terms, explained with direct quotations from Russells other works (primary source). The two entries that really apply to the essay topic are, Individualism, Loss of and Individuality, Reverence for Human. The entries paint Russell as a person whose ideas mirrored the real world conflict of the need/want for civilization/industrialization and the need for individuality. While in less detail than The Philosophy of Bertrand Russell, the direct quotations are from primary sources that I probably never would have found elsewise. In Schilpp, P. A., & Russell, B. (1951). The philosophy of Bertrand Russell. New York: Tudor Pub. Co. The particular essay of interest is, Russells Education Philosophy, by Boyd H. Bode. It develops the ideas I found in Dictionary to a finer point. It portrays Russells take on education by synthesizing his ideas about civilization, democracy, individual will, and the purpose of learning. It reinforced the idea that I need to look at many different parts of Russells philosophy to figure out his views on any one topic. Irvine, Andrew David, "Bertrand Russell", The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (Winter 2012 Edition), Edward N. Zalta (ed.), I didnt know which, if any, essays in Philosophy would bear fruit on my topic, so I thought a more general overview of Russells work would be beneficial. I was fairly certain topics relating to the Principia Mathematica wouldnt be of use, and this source keeps those parts separate from the social and political philosophy of Russell.
