Presentation on Teen Pregnancy: - Lisa Covitch and Autumn Temple presented on teen pregnancy. -They presented statistics both nationally and locally. -Blair County has a higher number of teen parents than the PA average. -The age of the teens is getting younger unfortunately. -About 1/3 of the teens, drop out of high school. -There is a trend of grandparents raising their grand children. -Some of the reasons that they have found for the pregnancies are: lack of information, low self esteem, lack of parenting, or mental health issues. -There is a new group in Tyrone that is helping teen parents. It is called Every Life Matters (ELM). Business Meeting Introductions: -Mahlon asked everyone to go around and introduced themselves. Review/Approval of Minutes: -The group reviewed the minutes. -Lori R made a motion to approve the minutes and Kristen seconded it.

Correspondence

-Michelle reported that no correspondence was received. 1

Review of Tresurers Report Update: -Kristen reported that the Health and Welfare Council balance is $4632.07 and SHIP is $138.82 with a total of $4770.89. -$1590 was received in membership fees for 2012/13. -Dee made a motion to accept the Treasurers Report and Linda G seconded it. Committee Reports Executive Committee: -Mahlon reported that the Executive Committee reviewed the survey of members from 2011 to see if anything still needed address. -Mahlon reported that the March meeting will be on the State of the State Budget. -Mahlon presented Juniata United Methodist Churchs Angel Feet Ministry Shoe Bank with a $500 check. They reported that they are open and accepting referrals and they also received a $1000 grant from Coventry. Marketing: -Sharon reported that the press release about the meeting was in the Altoona Mirror. Membership: -Michelle reported that there are currently 61 paid members. Website: -Dee reported that now you can send an email through the website (blairhealthandwelfare.org) Healthy Community Partnership: -Donna reported that they still havent adopted a plan on the state level. -The needs assessment is gathering the data from the various surveys (healthyblaircountycoalition.org). They will have a meeting to release the data. Blair County Human Service Office -There was no report. United Way of Blair County -Susanna reported that the RFP is out, VITA services are available for clients under 60, parenting classes are available, and comedy fundraiser will be held. Blair County Assistance Office -There was no report. Agency Happenings -Mahlon gave all agencies that had any agency happenings to report them to the group. Adjournment -Mahlon adjourned the meeting. -The next meeting will be on Friday, March 22 at 8:00 AM at The Arc of Blair County. 2
