2. EXTENDED DAY TRANSPORTATION INDICATOR IN ATS – UPDATE

Action required by Sept 25: schools
Schools need to ensure that all students who receive busing have an extended day indicator
in their ATS record so that they're routed appropriately. Students participating in the
extended day program should be coded as “M” or “V.” Students not participating in the
Building a Collaborative Community of Leaders
program should be coded as “N.” No students who receive busing should have a blank
extended day indicator. Changes made by September 25 will be reflected in bus routing on
October 26. Schools won't have another opportunity to make changes to this indicator.

3. PARKING PLACARDS FOR SCHOOLS THAT MOVED IN THE 09-10 SCHOOL YEAR
Action may be required: schools
The expiration date for placards that were distributed last year has been extended to
November 1, 2009. However, schools that moved into a different building over the summer
should exchange their on-street parking placards ASAP. The placards issued last year were
for parking spaces adjacent to school buildings and are not meant for use at a school’s new
location, potentially subjecting staff vehicles to parking tickets and enforcement action.
Click here for a list of schools that have moved over the summer and the number of
placards that they should return to their old locations and receive at their new locations.

4. LETTER REGARDING YOUTH RISK BEHAVIOR SURVEY

FYI: schools
Selected principals and their network leader/superintendents received this notice from the
DOE/Department of Health and Mental Hygiene regarding their schools’ participation in the
Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Click here for a list of schools contacted.

9. Test Orders: All State Tests must be ordered by October 7th. All Bronx schools lease
send your order confirmation to Sharon Cahr with a cc to Shehnaz. Sean must e-mail with
a cc to Shehnaz. If you need to re-set your password please e-mail Sharon.

10. Online Safety Applications

We are aware that principals are currently experiencing difficulties, such as system time-
outs and severe slowness, with the safety online application systems, including the Online
Occurrence Reporting System (OORS), Suspensions and Office of Hearings Online (SOHO),
and the School Safety Plan application. We are working diligently to resolve these technical
issues. We have identified the Provisioning application as the cause of the problem. As a
result, no new access will be granted until Monday, September 21st. Beginning Monday
the 21st, new users will receive access one business day after they are added by the
principal.

Users who have already been assigned access to the applications will continue to be able to
access them, and all school principals will continue to have access to the systems.

IMPORTANT: School staff will be able to enter incidents, bus drills, and fire drills into the
web systems beyond the required time frames until the citywide technical issues have been
resolved. In addition, the deadline for the school’s submission of the school safety plan
for initial review has been extended to Friday, October 9th.

With any questions or for technical assistance or support with any of these applications or
if you need help adding users, please contact the OSYD Research and Resource Center at
(718) 935-4357 or 5004.

In reference to Superintendent’s Suspensions, it appears using the Principal’s access

would be the best way for schools to request via SOHO. I will continue to keep you
updated regarding the status of the on-line application.

11. Wallace Conference: Ted Husted will be a Principal Panelist at the Wallace conference
in Washington, DC. Please see separately attached agenda if you would like to attend.

12. Update Extended Day Transportation Indicator in ATS

All schools / Deadline: September 25

All students who receive busing need to have an extended day indicator in their ATS record
to ensure that they are assigned to the appropriate bus route. Students participating in the
extended day program should be coded as “M” or “V.” Students not participating in the
program should be coded as “N.” No students who receive busing should have a blank
extended day indicator.

By September 25, please ensure that the extended day indicator is up to date for all of
your students who receive busing. After that date, we will not be able to accommodate
changes. Changes made by September 25 will be reflected in bus routing effective October
26.
