Essay The European Union Citizen

After this meeting, and being reunited into groups, we found a common thought concerning with definition of what is to be an European Citizen. The definition of European Citizenship was first introduced in the Maastricht Treaty in 1 !. To be a an European means to ha"e European Citizenship #i$e a country nationa#ity that gi"es you some rights, such as% the right to mo"e and reside within E& territory' the right to "ote and stand for e#ection at #oca# and European #e"e# in any member state' the right to protection from the dip#omatic authorities of any member state tra"e# outside the E&. As far, being an European Citizen means to grow up in a fami#y made up of peop#e who are different but the same, sharing some common "a#ues such as so#idarity, peace, democracy, to#erance. The scu#pture of the co##ecti"e and indi"idua# $now#edge is thorough#y made by education. (n the formation of nations the instruction was an inacti"e instruments in the transmission of the nationa# fee#ing by means of instruction' the citizens were #ets towards "irtue ci"ic and #oya#ty for the state)nation. *n the other hand, according to the &nion+s Treaty, education is the prerogati"e of the member states cu#ture and education remain defining attributes of the nationa# states. ,e may #oo$ different. ,e were born in different countries, different cu#tures. ,e may not ha"e the same be#iefs. -ut these must be the on#y difference between us, because we share the same s$y, we breathe the same o.ygen' we ha"e simi#ar prob#ems about the #ife that ma$e us a## European Citizens. /riendship% (n this Comenius 0ro1ect, we ma$e #ots of friends from different nationa#ities. ,e share the same space, we share the same dai#y habits, we share a cu#tures' #i$ewise, we show the cu#tures of our countries and cities or "i##ages. This is being an European Citizen% to share $now#edge' to #earn and to teach' to respect the others #i$e others #i$e we respect ourse#"es. ,e #earn not to ma$e wrong 1udgments about others, because we ha"e the opportunity to meet them. The European Citizen shou#d be aware e"eryone is uni2ue and that each country p#ays an important ro#e in bui#ding a c#oser Europe, witch is more to#erant and respectfu# towards cu#tura# and #inguistic di"ersity.
