Figure 1-THE FILM SHOTS-THE LA JETEE

La Jetee is a black and white; French science fiction film produced by Chris Marker in 1962.It is a short film only got 28 minutes by showing still photographs with narration and sounds. It is a story about a man talking and feelings in his vision when he is in time travel. It is inspirational of the still photographs creating mood and tensions with the narrator. There is also some moment with no sounds. It could be seen that the sounds were used really wisely. Audience would have an opportunity to build up the emotion from none to high. The sound design Chris Marker was doing is also concern about the lengthening between each frame and that is also a important point of building up.

Chris Marker employs the use of ambient sound throughout the film to underscore the story and heighten the mood. It is noticeable that the sounds are by using an environment sounds to be the foundation of the sounds. This is important, as there always have environment sounds, which people would not recognize but they will find out when it is totally silence. Furthermore, the still photographs in the film were really meaningful to the whole film because it gives good spaces for audience to imagine their own vision by the sound but getting on the track by the photos to present moods and scenes to audience.
