Repulsion 1965 -Roman Polanski film review

Fig1.Repulsion movie scene Repulsion 1965 was a British horror film directed by Roman Polanski, Shot in London. This story was about the main character Carol, really afraid of man and sexual relationship by the influences of her family. She starts having life confusion and hallucination when she was alone or at home. By the fear of loneliness and insecurity, she was trying to isolate herself and try to kill the people when they come to find her. It was many psychological horror and symbolic elements in this film, relies on the characters fear and instable emotion to build the tension. (Connolly, 2003) It could be seen that the tension was created by the personality of Carol as sensitive, insecure and mystery. The setting of Repulsion is crucial to understanding the issue regarding insanity and normative femininity that are central to its narrative, for these architectural and urban spaces are manifestations of the psychological interior of the films virginal heroine. In order to comprehend Caroles descent into madness, one must also appreciate the specific settings and circumstances that produce a dynamic and dangerous tension between interior and exterior, inside and outside, and the boundaries that separate them. (McDonald, 2010:139) It was noticeable that Carol was a character with a pure heart and aware of the sexual world around her life and she confused with the opposite sex when she went to a date with a men. It could be seen that she isolation between her and the world.

Carol calling the broken phone The bloody razor-death of the Patrick Wymark character, for instance, is particularly disturbing, with the use of sound quite as unsettling as the shocking imagery (Forshaw, 2013: 96) It is noticeable that sound in this film was another elements to create the horror tension and instable emotional. That was unnoticed during the film but really support the visual feelings at the same time. As in our daily life, silence can always create a psychological fear in the environment. It presented really well in this film combine with the sound of interior and exterior spaces.
