NETGEAR RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB Adapter WNDA3100


Thesesetupinstructionsassumethat youwill connect to anaccesspoint or wirelessrouter.
Estimatedcompletiontime:10minutes.
Installation
1. First, install the NETGEAR
WNDA3100 software.
Insert theResource CD. If theCD mainpage
doesnot display, browsethefilesontheCD
anddouble-click Autorun.exe.
a. Click Install the Software. TheSoftware
UpdateCheck screendisplays.
b. NETGEAR recommendsthat you
upgradewhennew firmwareisavailable.
If youareconnectedto theInternet, click
Check for Updates. If not, install fromtheCD.
TheNETGEAR Smart WizardWelcomescreendisplays.
c. Follow theonscreeninstructionsto install theNETGEAR WNDA3100software.
d. WhentheNETGEAR Smart WizardInstallationCompletescreendisplays, click
Next.
2. Now, insert the wireless USB
adapter.
a. Insert thewirelessadapter inaUSB port on
your computer.
For best results, put thewirelessadapter
at least 4feet (1meter) away fromyour
router.
To usetheUSB cable, connect it to thewirelessUSB adapter andaUSB
port. SeeTheUSB CableandCradle ontheother sideof thisdocument.
b. For WindowsVistacomputers, theadapter anddriver areautomatically added.
Click Next andthengo to Step3. For WindowsXP computers, theFoundNew
HardwareWizarddisplays.
c. Follow theonscreeninstructionsfor theFoundNew HardwareWizard.
For WindowsXP, if aWindowslogo testingmessageappears, click
Continue Anyway.
If amessagethat WindowsVistacannot verify thepublisher of thisdriver
displays, click Install this driver software anyway.
d. WhentheNETGEAR Smart Wizardscreenreturns, click Next to proceed.
3. Use the Smart Wizard to set up your wireless USB adapter.
a. WindowsXP or Vistauserscanset upthe
wirelessadapter either withtheNETGEAR
Smart Wizard(recommended) or the
Windowsconfigurationutilities.

moreinformationabout eachnetwork
andmakesit easier to troubleshoot
network connectionproblems.

b. Click Next to accept theSmart Wizard.
Youarepromptedto let thewizardhelp
youconnect to anetwork (recommended).
c. Click Next to proceed.
Connecting to a Wireless Network
Thenext screenthat displaysdependsonwhether thereisawirelessrouter or access
point at your locationthat supportsWi-Fi ProtectedSetup(WPS):
a. Follow theinstructionsontheConnectingto your wirelessnetwork screen:
If thereareno WPS networks, select awirelessnetwork fromthedrop-down
list, andthewizardrecordsyour choice.
Note: Hiddennetworksdo not broadcast theNetwork Name(SSID). These
networksareinthedrop-downlist, but theNetwork Name(SSID) isblank.
If thenetwork usessecurity, thentheSmart Wizarddetectsit.
If youareusingWPS, click Next to continue.
WPS allowsyouto click abuttonor createaPIN number to securely connect
to awirelessrouter or accesspoint. Boththewirelessadapter andtherouter
or accesspoint must support WPS. For moreinformationabout WPS, seethe
User Manual for the NETGEAR RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB
Adapter WNDA3100 ontheResource CD.
b. Follow theSmart Wizardstepsto connect to anetwork andto saveaProfile.
c. After youhavereviewedthesettings, click Finish.
TheWNDA3100icon appearsinthesystemtray andonthedesktop; theSettingstab
displays. Thewizardinitiatesyour wirelessconnection. It couldtakeupto aminutefor
your wirelessconnectionto beestablished. Check thestatusbar. SeeUsingtheStatus
Bar ontheother sideof thisdocument.
The wireless networks in your area One or more wireless networks with WPS
are in your area. do not support WPS.

The USB Cable and Cradle
YoucanattachthewirelessUSB adapter directly to aUSB port onyour computer, or use
theUSB cableto extendtherangeandobtainbetter wirelessreception. UsetheUSB
cable, plastic cradle, andloop-and-hook fastener for better adapter placement ona
computer monitor.
1. Attach the first fastener.
ThewirelessUSB adapter comeswiththreeblack
fasteners. Locatetheonewithaprickly side, andattachit
to theplastic cradleonthemiddleof theoutside
rear.Insert theadapter intheplastic cradle.
2. Connect the USB cable.
3. Place the other fasteners.
Placeoneof theother piecesof loop-
and-hook fastener onthesideor back of
your monitor near thetopfor better
reception.
Thenjointhepiecesof thefastener to
attachtheUSB adapter intheplastic
cradleto themonitor.
Using the Status Bar
Thestatusbar islocatedat thebottomof theSettingstab.
Understanding the Status Bar
Wireless network Identifies which wireless network you have joined.
Security A closed lock indicates that security is enabled.
An open lock indicates an open network without wireless security.
Channel The wireless channel used by the network. If many wireless
networks in your area use the same channel, theycan interfere with
one another.
ThroughputMbps
(megabits per
second)
To optimize wireless throughput, connect to a network with a high-
speed router or access point and a high-speed Internet
connection.
If there is wireless interference in the 2.4 GHz range, such as from
a cordless phone, use the Advanced Settings to select 5 GHz.

Signal strength More dots indicates a stronger signal. Usually, you experience
higher throughput when the signal is strongest.
J oin a Network Click Join a Network to start the Connection Wizard.

status
The status of your network connection.
Connected to Internet. The wireless Internet connection is OK.
Connected to Router. The wireless connection to the router is
OK, but the router is not connected to the Internet.
169.254.x.x or ___.___.___.___ . The wireless connection to the
router is OK, but there is a problemwith the router. See the User
