Rep. Dovilla Announces Passage of Infrastructure Improvement Program for Local Governments
COLUMBUSState Representative Mike Dovilla (R-Berea) applauded House passage of Senate Joint Resolution 6, which authorizes nearly $2 billion in funding for infrastructure improvement projects throughout the state. SJR 6 puts before voters a ballot initiative to renew funding for the Ohio Public Works Commission (PWC). The PWC provides financing for local government infrastructure improvements such as roads, bridges, solid waste disposal, water supply, storm water collection, and waste water treatment. Voter reauthorization of this program would authorize $1.875 billion of funding over ten years without raising taxes on hardworking Ohioans. The communities in the 7th House District have greatly benefited from the Public Works Commission, which has funded bridge replacement, road improvements, and sanitation and water lines, said Dovilla. The reauthorization of this program will continue to assist Strongsville, North Royalton, Berea, Olmsted Falls, and Olmsted Township with the replacement of aging infrastructure in an efficient manner. The Ohio Public Works Commission was created in 1987 after being approved by voters as an amendment to the Ohio Constitution and has twice been reauthorized. Since that time, it has provided more than $3 billion in assistance to local governments for infrastructure projects. -30-
