Civil Right Movements

Maicyn Udani, Hokulani Herrell, Ana Soi Website Junior Group Division Process Paper We chose our topic because we thought civil rights was an interesting topic for History Day. We didnt really know much about the Civil Rights movement. Thus, we thought that if we

did our project on civil rights, we would get to know a lot more about the topic and history of our country. We learned a lot of information like who were a part of the Civil Rights movement and what said about the Civil Rights movement. In addition, we wanted to study this topic because we read the book The Watsons go to Birmingham by Christopher Paul Curtis, in our ELA class (english language arts). Therefore, our group knew that learning about African American history would connect to reading that book. We researched by searching on Google about the Civil Rights movement, and how slavery connected to the Civil Rights movement. We also researched about other events and people that were involved in the Civil Rights movement. In addition, we searched on Google pictures related to the Civil Rights movement. One book that we borrowed from the library was called I Have A Dream by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and we thought that this book would be a good primary source because it is actually written by MLK Jr. Our presentation category is website. We chose website as our presentation category because we thought that a website would be most interesting to create. We also thought that a website would be fun to work on together as a group. This project would also give us experience in making websites so in the future so we could apply this new knowledge and skill to a future job, or another project for school. Our project is based off of African American history. This relates to the NHD theme because in our project, we talked about civil rights. The NHD theme Rights and Responsibilities relates to African American history because African Americans didnt have equal rights like White people in the past. Also, this relates to the responsibility theme because it was the American peoples responsibility to keep their equal rights to all.
