PC MAINTENANCE

This module is aimed at say the need and necessities involved at looking after personal computers. Well looked after and maintained systems have good health and are nice to work at. This module is divided into 5 units each emphasizing on the need and way of maintenance . Examples and block diagrams are provided in each unit to make the reader comfortable. Unit 1 gives an overview of I ! "# architecture. It describes briefly the basic system components that are the building blocks of a computer. $fter reading this% understanding the basic terms and concepts related% you can open any system related manual and understand most of it. Unit 2 describes the "# maintenance ob&ectives. The reason being% every user wants his or her "# to perform well. The incorrect setup or configuration is a common cause of poor performance and unexplained system crashes. 'o % this unit examines how to set up and optimize "#s to get the best possible performance. Unit 3 describes how the operating environment of a computer can affect its reliability and life(span. It also describes the ways of maintaining the system% the various things you can do to prevent serious faults from occurring or at least reduce their likelihood% so that the system performance can be kept stable. Unit 4 is about preparing a "# for network operations% since "# networks are becoming increasingly popular. In this unit% you will explore ways to connect your "# to other computers. There are many ways of interconnecting "#s% and one type is )$* + local area network. Unit 5 discusses the diagnostic tests and tools. The diagnostic software provides the way through which you can examine your system hardware and the way your components are working. The two levels of diagnostic software ",'T and general(purpose is included . The unit also emphasis on the effect of virus and its prevention.
