IDENTIFY CONCERNS What does youth violence look like in our school and community? What efforts are already in place to reduce and prevent youth violence in our school and community? These are very important questions. They are a big part of helping me identify concerns for STOP the Violence program. I needed a picture of the way things are now in order to envision what could be different in the future because we all want to be part of a positive team. SET A GOAL My goal is to educate and empower all students with attitudes, skills and resources in order to recognize and reduce youth violence in grades Kindergarten through 6th. FORM A PLAN Who: Kaci Kuszak What: To educate and empower all students with attitudes, skills, and resources in order to recognize and reduce youth violence in grades K-6th When: January 6, 2014 to present Where: FCS and K-6th classrooms How: Researched the STOP the Violence and The Energy Bus for Kids programs. Set up lesson plans and activities to promote these programs Cost: Time for researching the material and designing an interactive poster, there was no expense as the website I used was free Human Resources: FCCLA Adviser/FCS teacher and, K-6th grade students and teachers, and school administrators Non-Human Resources: 2012 National FCCLA and Energy Bus Kids websites and 2001 STOP the Violence CD Evaluation: After reviewing completed surveys, I discovered that students needed to be educated on this topic to get a better understanding. ACT I researched the STOP the Violence and Energy Bus Kids programs. I found lesson plans and activities to prepare, practice and present to 9th Health/P.E. class. I wrote my speech, made a virtual poster presentation, and practiced it several times until I felt comfortable to video tape. I will present to all students and teachers in grades 5th through 12th. FOLLOW UP After completing my research and reviewing the surveys that the Kindergarten through 6th grade students completed about bullying, it indicated that bullying was a concern. Students indicated that they needed more education to educate them about bullying. I decided to continue this issue by presenting my information into a virtual poster presentation. A thank you to my FCCLA Adviser to encourage me to complete this STAR project and technology coordinator to assist with finding an interactive poster website.
