Services for orphans and the less privileged are charitable projects that focus on
orphaned children and the less privileged in some villages and communities. In this
initiative, food items and school materials will be provided to registered and verified
children who will be the beneficiaries. So that they can also be able to attain education
and become role models in our society and the world at large. In Africa, most of the
drop outs from schools are orphans and less privileged children. Therefore, providing
services to orphans and the less privileged will address these problems.
Founder/Co-Founder
Is anyone else you are working with on this project also applying to the
Fellowship?
How many lives will be positively impacted by your Project during the
Millennium Fellowship (from August 2023 to December 2023)?
150-199
Do you have a specific number of the projected number of lives that will be
positively impacted by your Project? Please write it below (optional)
200
How will you measure your impact during these 4 months? How do you know
you've been successful?
I will do some research and take the time to investigate the problem that I am solving
and the solution I am proposing. It would be interesting to learn how much food and
school supplies are distributed to orphans and the less privileged in different
communities. It is the improvement of the children's participation in school activities,
their punctuality, and the way they respond to class that will give me an indication of
my success. We will host 4 events in various communities, and 150 people will attend
each event.
Please choose one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that your work
most directly addresses.
2 Zero Hunger
Since I am part of the community that I want to help, I have already formed strong
relationships with the villages where I will concentrate my efforts. Last month, when I
visited one of the villages, I even took pictures.
Fast forward to the end of the Fellowship in December 2023. If your local
newspaper was summing up why your Project mattered as it relates to UN
goals, what would they say? The Project, in this case, is the one you are
leading prior to and during the Fellowship.
In light of the fact that my project relates to one of the UN's aims and objectives.
Serving humanity has been my motive in life since I was young. As part of its efforts to
eliminate hunger, it is also the most significant issue that the UN has been addressing
globally. the project is the one I have proposed and I will be leading it during the
fellowship.I am sure with my thorough analyses through the data we have collected
from different communities and villages will help make this project a sustainable
project.
Are you able to commit 2 hours bi-weekly for the Fellowship sessions
throughout the duration of the 2023 program (August 1 - November 30)?
Yes
Staying at home will affect the implementation of my proposed project by 85%. This is
because our implementation will be a person-to-person process. As a result, we will be
able to collect accurate information that will be required to ensure the project's
sustainability. As a result, additional goals will be set.
Q1: What drives you in your work? In other words, why do you personally
care about the issues you are working on? Please share a story if relevant.
What motivated me to personally care about these issues that I am working on is that I
grew up in a community that was unsupported. Most of the people who lived there
were girls. Some of them ended up getting married earlier than expected while others
jumped to the streets and started prostitution.
There was a girl by the name of Aminata Conteh. She was my schoolmate and we used
to walk to school together and return home. She lived with her father and stepmother.
Her mother passed away during the delivery process. Aminata was so brilliant at
school and she was among the most outstanding female students. Her father was very
supportive and he could provide anything she requested. Unfortunately, her father had
an accident and he could not survive. When Aminata sat for the West Africa Senior
Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) she was successful and she
wanted to apply to university but there were no sources of support for her. In the end,
the 17-year-old was fooled into thinking that a man wanted to help her reach her
goals, and then she got pregnant and couldn't deliver. She died during delivery.
Because of this tragic ending to my friend's life, I vow to myself in the future to
support less privileged children and orphans. This is especially true for young girls
because they are more vulnerable.
Q2: Why do you want to be a Millennium Fellow? How will you use this
distinction towards your future social impact work?
Q3: MCN values that our community prioritizes empathetic, humble, inclusive
leadership. Reflect upon your personal experience of acting as a leader, and
share how you demonstrated one of these core values.
