A quarter of all life on the planet lives underground. Their homes are found right under our feet. Its a real labyrinth! Tom and his mum are imagining what their homes are like. Can you imagine how lovely their homes underground are too? Could you draw each animal and insect in its home? To help you, the homes have been numbered: the mole (1), the ants (2), the mouse (3), the earthworms (4), the rabbit (5) and the badger (6). 3

The factory in Merlin City is releasing polluted water. What does this factory look like? Can you draw it? Show where the polluted water is going. How would you clean the water flowing between the factory and old Basils cow? Would you put in a filter? Or a water-treatment plant? Or plants and grasses? We must make sure that old Basils cow has clean water to drink!

Tom has just spent a very tiring day with his class and his teacher cleaning the beach. Some careless people left behind rubbish that is dangerous for fish, birds and other animals. Draw in Toms container and wheelbarrow the rubbish that those irresponsible people left behind them on the beach.

The Mayor of Merlin City is worried. Hassle Street is too polluted. What do you think has caused this pollution? Are there too many cars? Or too many traffic jams? Draw the cause of this pollution on this page.

You must have plenty of ideas on how to help the Mayor. On this page draw your ideas for making the street less polluted. This road is called Blossom Lane. Why do you think this road might be less polluted? For example, do you know any types of transport that do not pollute so much? Tom and his friend Fleur would really like to walk down the street where the air is as clean as possible. Draw them...

Mum and Dad are very busy. The kitchen sink is blocked. They dont want to use any products that are dangerous for the environment. They are using a mixture of vinegar, water and salt. They pour the mixture into the sink and leave it for 30 minutes. Then, they rinse the sink pipe with boiling water. And there you go! Problem solved! Could you draw a nice kitchen? Dont forget the sink and the faces of Toms parents...

The Mayor is organising a competition. The teacher asks the children to design a symbol which indicates something is dangerous for the environment. Tom gets to work. What would your dangerous for the environment symbol look like? Would you include animals? People? Plants? Draw your symbol.

The Mayor is organising a conference to explain environmentally friendly products to the people living in Merlin City. It would be great if you could help Tom to create a poster with the Ecolabel symbol on it. This poster will be used for the Mayors conference. Have you ever seen this symbol on a product? At home? In a shop?

Do you know that the Asian tiger is in danger? Its prey and its habitat are disappearing. Poachers are hunting it. Tigers are used in traditional Asian medicine. The CITES Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora now protects the Asian tiger. Phew! So tigers can relax again! Draw some happy tigers!

Dad is trimming the hedge. Mum has prepared a salad. Both these activities produce organic waste. Tom is taking this waste to the compost heap. The compost will act as a natural fertiliser for the garden and the vegetable patch. Choose the best place to put the compost. Imagine what other organic waste Tom could put on the compost. Using your favourite colour, draw the path Tom will take to put the organic waste on the compost. Then, draw your dream garden...

To prevent birds coming and eating the seeds in the vegetable patch, Tom has reused some objects to make a scarecrow. He has hung up some old cans, jam jars and CDs so that they knock against each other. When they move they make a noise which scares off the birds. Why dont you finish drawing the scarecrow?

Help Tom draw a green farm. What would this farm be like? Would there be a wood? Wind turbines? Which animals would live on this farm? Which birds? Which insects? When you draw the farm, make sure all the animals, birds and insects can find two important things: food and water. Canyouimagineand draw a nice home for each of them?

Tom is gathering honey. The bees leave the hive, gather pollen from the flower blossom and carry that pollen with them as they go from apple tree to apple tree. These trips mean the flowers are fertilised by the pollen to produce the fruit. Try to imagine the path the bee must have taken so that old Basil could have an apple in his hands. Why dont you draw the path the bees took? Orchards are so pretty, especially when the trees are in blossom. Why dont you draw a lovely orchard? Dont forget the flowers and their pollen. The bees need it!

This birdwatcher is watching a heron. To enjoy a good quality of life, birds need to live in a nice environment. Draw the natural environment that the birds need. Dont forget that birds must be able to feed, wash, rest, hide, protect themselves from the wind and from predators, bring up their young, and so on.

There is a risk that the old mine in Merlin City will collapse. This is dangerous for people but it is a great place for bats to spend the winter. Help Tom block off the access to the mines galleries by building a brick wall around the bars which the bats can pass through. Draw the bats waiting for him to finish his work.

Tom has decided to repair his old bike. He is going to use spare parts rather than buy a new bike. Help Tom put his bike back together. Think about what is missing from the bike and draw it in. Dont forget to paint the bike in your favourite colour. Above all, dont forget to put a drop of oil on the chain!
