Executive Summary

Dillon

In this report, the DJYS restaurant mapping system with smartphone integration was created to cater to those in the food service industry across the country. Our primary focus when creating this computer system was to allow all current restaurant employees advanced, easily accessible information on their current in-house customers at any point in time. Furthermore, our smartphone application will allow patrons to be notified with updates regarding their upcoming dinner reservation alongside cutting-edge user options no other company offers. This emerging technology will generate $39,275.82 savings after a five year period, which could be utilized by restaurants to increase restaurant capacity or better yet to expand restaurant chain-branches nationwide.

Introduction

Dillon

Manual processes are becoming slim and far between in the business world while the rise of automation is apparent. Automating processes frees up time for employees to work more efficiently as well as assuring managers mundane tasks are executed flawlessly with the assistance of evolving technologies. In the vast majority of American restaurants today, employees conduct business by means of traditional technologies to serve the masses every day. The average customer sitting in a waiting room does not truly appreciate the tremendous amount of responsibility each employee is accountable for in order to operate at capacity. Hostesses hover over primitive whiteboards armed with markers constantly coordinating with waiters and servers to create a functional map of the restaurant floor along with approximate wait times. All the while, hundreds of hungry customers eagerly wait for their small, flashing red buzzer to vibrate and shortly after be escorted to their dinner table as their appetite intensifies. Currently,
3

these technology deficiencies place undue burden on restaurant employees causing owners to hire additional workers to keep up with customer demands. Not to mention preventing overworked hostesses from concentrating their efforts on superb customer service. After all the customer is always right. Our business group plans to elevate the overall service quality of restaurants across the country with the invention of the DJYS Database System and smartphone application. The DJYS delivers an all-in-one structure to allow employees to effectively synchronize fluid information from anywhere in the restaurant while also equipping customers with a state of the art application integrated directly onto their smartphones. Our service fosters an enhanced dining experience and eliminates the need for pager buzzers giving patrons freedom to wonder off restaurant premises remaining in contact with our servers by the use of push notifications.

Overview and Business Justification

Dillon

The DJYS Database Application for computers and smartphones enriches the banquet experience for employees and customers alike. To begin, restaurants across the United States combine to create a multi-hundred billion dollar a year industry. According to the Huffington Post, The National Restaurant Association has released its 2012 Industry Forecast, projecting that total industry sales will reach a record high of $632 billion, a 3.5 percent increase over 2011 3. Even though restaurants are presently striving, by employing our services restaurants can increase productivity and reach their full potential. Once the DJYS system is incorporated, restaurants will be able to decrease in-house staff, revamp older computing technology, and place a higher emphasis on training employees to be engaging to incoming patrons. In the short

run, cost will increase in order to install the latest technologies; however these costs are dwarfed by the positive net gain in the long run. The prototypical buzzer limits the freedom of the average customer. When a customer enters a restaurant on a busy night, most likely there will be a substantial wait. At this time, paging systems only operate in a limited radius surrounding the restaurant only reaching parking lot limits. However, numerous customers would like the sovereignty to leave restaurant premises explore neighboring businesses. The DJYS system allows patrons to be notified via push notifications promptly to your smartphone five to sixty minutes in advance of your reservation. Our system replaces the current pager system while offering users the ability to track your reservations time, pick your desired seat at your favorite restaurant, and offers an easy way to cancel or move your reservation in a pinch. DYJS increases efficiency by minimizing the amount of communication the hostess conducts with waiters while increasing morale among employees owed to less stress and busy work. Lastly, customers reap the benefits of the DJYS system by remotely browsing dinner seat availability and reservation statuses on the go. Our As Is vs. To Be illustrations provide a precise depiction of the overwhelming benefits our advanced

automation technology is capable of producing for participating restaurants.

Comparison of As Is vs. To Be
As Is

Jaime

The As Is process for running a restaurant and delivering customer service is barely automated. Flaws to the current system are that it requires time intensive actions and has a high probability for human error. The time intensive work can be seen as inventorying tables and communicating with other employees in order to simply ensure tables are available. This is time

that hostesses should be spending in the greeting area ensuring that all customers are helped as soon as they arrive. Also, the chance of human error lowering customer satisfaction can occur every time estimations are made. When incorrect or off by a certain degree these estimates can upset customers before they have even sat at the restaurant yet. Both of these aspects can be seen in the full process diagram that follows

As previously mentioned, the un-automated system seen above is what DJYS aims to improve. Time management and efficiency of restaurant employees can be exponentially increased with the help of our software.

To Be
The To Be system demonstrates the operation of a restaurant using the DJYS restaurant software and app. The software takes over the time intensive tasks for hostesses and removes the use of pagers in the restaurant. The diagram below shows the major areas that the system sends updates to allow the hostess to stay informed without leaving her greeting area excessively. It can also be seen how the system does not require additional steps to be taken by employees but is synced with the Server database to maximize time efficiency. Fast communication and options for push and pull updates all for all employees to be kept up-to-date on all aspects of how the restaurant is running. Also, the ability to gather customer information to create calculated wait times instead of estimates allows for a higher level of customer satisfaction to be delivered.

Automation of the restaurant process removes human error by using gathered data to calculate wait times based off of statistics and formulas. Constant updates for both employees and customers of the wait times and table availability are just a few of the possiblities DJYS has

to allow people to stay informed. Overall, the use of DJYS decreases probabilities of wasted employee time and increases the degree of customer satisfaction with its software and app.

IS Components
Hardware

This App is a Server/Client based software. So the hardware require for the each side is different. For the server side, we need an internet-connected PC to run the server software and save the database, because its multitasking it also can be the media device or front desk terminal. For the client side, the only device required is an iOS or Android smartphone, and available to connect the internet by wi-fi or cellular network.

Software
Two pieces of software will need to be developed for this project: 1. The app itself (JAVA or Object-C); 2. A backend application for storing and displaying data (SES pick-up requests) that are submitted by the app. (SQL)

Operating Environment
Server: To be easy to run and maintain, the best environment for the software is windows, but it also can be developed for Linux. Client: The App can run on all of the platform which has been develop, depends on which platform that planned to develop. Normally, it will run on Android and iOS, because they are easy to develop and popular.

Database
The MySQL database will contain two tables:
9

1. All SES pick-up locations, as latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates, for use in calculating the distance of users from the nearest pick-up location, and with a text description; and
2. All SES pick-up requests made by users, containing the users name, phone number, time

of request, passenger count, pick-up location, and destination.

Data
The data captured by the app is the minimal amount needed for the app to successfully operate. Users must both manually enter some information needed, while other information is automatically captured. The app captures this user-entered data: Table Number Current Time The app requires the following data, which is automatically provided: Table Available Order Status Current Order and Completion Total Amount and Tips

Procedures
When the client app launched, it needs to be log in first and then connect to the internet by wi-fi or cellular network. After the client connects to the server side itll have the limit to query the database. Server side will provide the information of the table that client query for. And client will update the status change of the table immediately.

10

People
The number of people who will be interacting with the process is minimal. For developing, this project can be finished by a well-trained programmer which is good at JavaScript and SQL language. For customer, nearly all the people who can use App on smartphone can use the client APP, they only need a person have basic experience of database to maintain the server.

Other Relevant Apps

Steven

There is no such a competitor for this product now a day; DJYS Restaurant System lead the way for a new innovation which has mapping features for the restaurant this day to connect the hostess and the waiters about the status of each table that can make upcoming customer feel more comfortable with the wait time to be seated. The only relevant application that almost has the same feature with us called Restaurant Butler1; however, it is still different than what we have. Restaurant Butler is a P.O.S. application for restaurants, bars, hotels, and catering. The similarity between our product and Restaurant Butler that we have are both of us can be used in Smartphones and it also has mapping feature in it. What makes our application unique than Restaurant Butler has is in mapping feature which has connecting system between hostess and waitress that about the status of each table. Restaurant Butler does not have that feature.
