In Year 10 you will be completing a unit on biology, chemistry and physics.

In Year 11 you will be completing scientific skill topics.

What kind of class activities will there be?

What kind of homework assignments will there be?


This consists of researching for tasks and completing tasks.

What percentage of the final GCSE grade is for coursework?


This course is 75% coursework based.

What percentage of the final grade is for examinations at the end of Year 10 and 11?
There is a 25% exam in Year 10 for the BTEC First Award in Science and a second 25% exam in Year 11 for the BTEC Applications of Science.

What are the most interesting parts of the course?


> Understanding some of the science behind the issues being discussed in the newspapers and on TV. > Understanding better how our bodies and the chemicals and appliances that we use work. > Producing your topical project about a scientific issue.

Why is the BTEC in Applied Science a useful course for me?


It would make you a more scientifically literate person and the skills you acquire would be useful in a wide range of occupations. The course would provide a good basis from which to proceed to a Level 3 BTEC course at post-16.

Combined Science or BTEC Applied Science?


Teachers will guide students and their families in Year 10 whether it is appropriate to follow the combined science double award or the BTEC Applied Science course.
