Students will design and construct different rectangles, given either perimeter or area, or both (whole numbers), and make generalizations.

Introduction: Review of Perimeter and Area Sock puppets o Jeopardy game with Perimeter Patty and Area Allie Body/Activities: SMART lesson o Perimeter o Students make certain length perimeter out of foam blocks o Some students come show on board o Area o Students make certain area of rectangles out of foam blocks o Some students come show on board o Farmer Joe and his chicken pen question students figure out and share o Students complete questions using their foam blocks to build and draw specified rectangles (given perimeter, area or both) Conclusion: Introduce assignment for next day Students will be architects, in which they will build houses on a street using perimeter and area Exit Pass ask students to make a rectangle out of their blocks and hold them in the air for teacher to see before they can leave
