In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent the Most
Merciful
Indeed all praise belongs to Allah. We praise Him and seek
His help and forgiveness, and seek refuge in Him from our
own evil self and from our misdeeds. No one can misguide
whom Allah guides, and no one can guide him whom He
allows to remain in misguidance.
And I testify that there is no deity besides Allah, and I
testify that Mohammad (peace be upon him) is His slave
and Messenger.
O ye who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and
die not except in a state of Islam.
O mankind! reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created
you from a single person, created, of like nature, His mate,
and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men
and women;- reverence Allah, through whom ye demand

your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (That bore

you): for Allah ever watches over you.
O ye who believe! Fear Allah, and (always) say a word
directed to the Right:
That He may make your conduct whole and sound and
forgive you your sins: He that obeys Allah and His
Messenger, has already attained the highest achievement.

)6(

O ye who believe! save yourselves and your families from
a Fire whose fuel is Men and Stones, over which are
(appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who flinch not (from
executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do
(precisely) what they are commanded.
The blessed month of Ramadan is not just a month of
fasting where the believers abstain from the usual pleasures
of life for a month. It is a month of mercy, forgiveness and
being released from hellfire. We are urged to be generous
in this month and our Creator also shows His infinite
generosity by way of His mercy and forgiveness and
releases us from Hell fire.
A hadith is often quoted on this issue whose authenticity
has been questions.

...
What is the authenticity of the hadith reported from
Salman Al Farsi, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon Him gave us a
sermon at the end of the month of Shaban in which He
(pbuh) said:
"Oh people! A great month has come over you; a blessed
month; a month in which is a night better than a thousand
months; month in which Allah has made it compulsory
upon you to fast by day, and voluntary to pray by night.
Whoever draws nearer (to Allah) by performing any of the
(optional) good deeds in (this month) shall receive the same
reward as performing an obligatory deed at any other time,
and whoever discharges an obligatory deed in (this month)
shall receive the reward of performing seventy obligations
at any other time. This is a month whose first part is mercy,
the middle part forgiveness and the last part leads to the
release from the hell fire.

All praise belongs to Allah.
This hadith is reported by Ibn Khudaima in his collection of
Hadith and he said, if the report is authentic. The word,
if is not mentioned in some references such as in the
book Al Targeeub Wa Al Tarheeb by Imam Mundhiri.
They were of the opinion that Ibn Khudaima mentioned the
report was authentic. And he was not sure about it.
Several other collections of hadith have reported this
hadith, all of them from Salman Al Farsi, may Allah be
pleased with him.
:
The chain of transmission of this hadith is weak due to two
reasons.
1.
1. Saeed ibn Musayyab did not hear from Salman Al Farsi,
may Allah be pleased with him.
: " " 2
)207/5( ) (
(
( 20/9 )
) 871( 262/2 )

2. The chain of transmission includes Ali bin Judaan who
has been considered to be a weak narrator by several
scholars of hadith who did not accept this hadith as
authentic.

:

.
In addition there is a problem with the text of this ahadith
as well. For example the division of the month into three
periods of ten days each, that of mercy, forgiveness and
release from hell fire. There is no proof for this division
since the favors of Allah are very wide and the entire
month of Ramadan is full of mercy and forgiveness. Allah
releases many people from the hell fire every night and at
the time of fasting as is proved by other ahadith.
) ( :

And similarly the statement that whoever draws nearer (to
Allah) by performing any of the (optional) good deeds in
(this month) shall receive the same reward as performing
an obligatory deed at any other time is not supported by
evidence since a voluntary act is a voluntary act and an
obligatory act is an obligatory act whether performed in the
month of Ramadan or at other times.
( :
)

(
. )
Similarly the reward of an obligatory act being equal to
performing seventy obligatory acts is open to discussion
since a good deed carries ten times to seven hundred times
the reward whether done during the month of Ramadan or
outside of it. The only exception to this is the act of fasting

whose reward is great and without any limits as mentioned

the Hadith Qudsi reported by Abu Huraira, may Allah be
pleased with him and agreed upon by both Imam Bukhari
and Imam Muslim. The hadith mentions Allah as saying
that every act of the son of Adam is for him except the
fasting because it is for me and I will give a reward for it.s

.

We should avoid the weak ahadith and confirm their status
before mentioning them. We should choose the authentic
ahadith mentioning the virtues of the month of Ramadan.
May Allah grant all of us to do this and accept our fasting,
night prayers and all good deeds.
And Allah knows best.

TWENTY WAYS OF RELEASE FROM THE HELL
FIRE DURING THE MONTH OF RAMANDAN

.
All praise belongs to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. And
praise and greetings to the Messenger sent as mercy to all

the worlds, our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and on his

family, companions and those who follow his guidance
and act according to his ways to the end of the time.

[[
] ) 2169(
] :
[
] ) 2170( [
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said that Allah releases some
people from the hellfire every day and every night of
Ramadan, and every believer has a request that is granted
every day and every night.
And the Holy Prophet (pbuh) said that Allah releases
some people from the hell fire at the time of the breaking
of every fast

.

So whoever hears this hadith should try to find out the

means through which his neck will be released from the
hell fire especially in this blessed time when Allahs
mercy is all comprehensive. So O seeker of good come
forward. The devils are chained and the doors of the

Paradise have been opened. So seek great mercy of Allah

to whom belongs all the praise and all the favors come
from Him.

.
.
.

.

[ [ ] :

.
How many people were engaged in committing sins and
transgressions who became kings and nobles due to their
obedience to Allah after suffering from the humiliation of
disobedience? And how many became the kings in the
Hereafter after being in the grip of hell fire? Praise be to
you O Allah!
So O people of the sins take advantage of these blessed
days since there is no substitute for these. These days are
priceless. Whoever is released from the hell fire has won a
great reward. As the Holy Prophet (pbuh) told Abubakar,
may Allah be pleased with him, that you have been
released from the hell fire by Allah.
None but persons of the greatest good fortune are granted

this.
It is hoped that a prisoner of sins will be released. It is
hoped that those condemned to hell fire will be released
from it. May Allah make you and me among them,
Ameen!

:

" "
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) has pointed out to us the actions
that are the means of the release from hell fire. I have
compiled twenty means. Please concentrate on them and
try to make them your daily routine. There is no
comparison for their benefits and magnitude since they
lead to the release from the hell fire.

] :

] 185 : [ [

.
:
Whoso is removed from the Fire and is made to enter
paradise, he indeed is triumphant. The life of this world is
but comfort of illusion.
So here are the twenty means and all that remains is for
you to act accordingly. Do no disregard since these
actions lead to a great reward and cherished prize.

. ) 1(
: ] :
] [ [
1. Sincerity: A person who states that there is no deity
except Allah for the sake of Allahs pleasure, Allah will
prohibit the hell fire for him
:

.
: :
.

The most sign of this is that a person is energetic in

obeying Allah and he likes that only Allah watches his
actions. Zhun Noon was asked as to when a person knows
that he is among those who worship Allah sincerely? He
said: When a person makes a lot of effort in acts of
obedience and likes that people do not pay much regard to
him.
So if you want to achieve this success then make a serious
effort and tie your belt. Show Allah something that will
achieve His pleasure. You will achieve your goal
depending upon how hard you work. Your effort will be
according to what goal.

.
2. Improving the prayers by joining the congregation with
the first takbeer
If a person offers prayers for forty days joining the
congregation with the first takbeer, for the sake of Allah
only, he achieves safety from two things: from the hell
fire and from hypocrisy.
This is a requirement of faith that you should be keen to
perform. These two hundred prayers are like two hundred
steps to the paradise. Is the commodity of Allah not
valuable enough that you show eagerness for it? The way
to achieve this is to reduce the burdens of this world for
this period of time. You must ask Allah with each prayer
that He allows you to perform the next prayer while
joining the congregation with the first takbeer.
Improving the prayers during day will lead to the

improvement of prayers at night and the opposite is also

true. This will happen with avoidance of sins, eagerness to
perform acts of obedience and performance of regular acts
of remembrance of Allah at specific times. Make this an
important part of your life and strive towards its
achievement. Ask help from Allah and do not feel
helpless. If you falter one day, then resume your schedule
and do not allow yourself to be bored. This is (a way to)
paradise. This is release from hell fire and safety from its
lowest level .

.
3. Punctuality in offering the Fajr and the Asr prayers:

The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said that whoever performs the

prayers before the sunrise and before the sunset will not
enter the hell fire.
This implies performing these prayers at their earliest
(prescribed) times and the offering of voluntary prayers
before the obligatory prayers.
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: The two prayers (before
the obligatory prayers) of Fajr are better than this world
and whatever is in it.
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: May Allah have mercy on
a person who prayers four raka before the Asr prayers.
You must make supplications and ask Allah for
forgiveness between the call to the prayer and the
beginning of the congregational prayer. It is hoped that
this will lead to concentration and humility during the
prayer. Consistency on this is a great means for achieving
steadfastness. These two prayers are of great importance.
Seek help in performing the Fajr prayers by sleeping
early, performing ablution before sleep, performing the
acts of remembrance before sleep and supplicating to
Allah that He grants you this great honor.
Seek help in performing the Asr prayers by eating on time
and arrange your affairs before it. Try as much as possible
to keep harmony with the faith during this time of the day.

4. Punctuality in performing four (voluntary) prayers
before and after the obligatory Dhur prayers.
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: Allah will make the hell
)fire forbidden on a person who guards the four (voluntary
prayers before and after the obligatory prayers.
This honor is especially for those who offer these
voluntary prayers. Some scholars consider these prayers
as highly emphasized due to their great reward.
If you find it difficult to offer these prayers then remind
yourself that their reward is hell fire is forbidden.

5. Crying from the fear of Allah:
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: A person who cries from
the fear of Allah will not enter the hell fire until the milk
returns to the udder and the dust in the path of Allah (dust
raised from the marching of horses in battle) and the
smoke of hell fire will not both occupy the same nostril.
So good news to you if one drop of tear from your eye
shed out of fear of Allah is accepted. The hearts are
cleaned of sins from the water flowing from the eyes. We
should cry a lot especially in the month of Ramadan when
listening to the recitation of the Holy Quran during the
Taraweeah prayers and Tahajjud. If a person comes to
Allah but only once in a year, even this will be a lot, said
Sufyan At Thawri
A person whose eyes become full of tears while
remembering Allah will be among the seven people whom
Allah will protect under His shade on a day when there
will be no shade except His shade.

Allah Holy Prophet (pbuh) said Nothing is dearer to

Allah than two drops and two footsteps. A drop of tear
shed out of fear of Allah, and a drop of blood shed in
Allahs path. As far as the footsteps are concerned, a
footstep in Allahs path and a footstep taken in performing
one of the obligatory acts.
Khalid bin Maadan said that a drop of tear can extinguish
seas of fire. If it flows on the cheek, it will not see the hell
fire. When a person cries out of fear or Allah his other
body parts also participate in it. His name and his fathers
name are written in the High Place that his heart is filled
with the remembrance of Allah.

6. Walking in Allahs path:
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said that the two feet that are
covered with dust from walking in Allahs path are made
forbidden on the hell fire.
Seek the reward of footsteps in Allahs path such as
walking towards the mosque particularly for the Friday
prayers.
The Holy Prophet (pbuh):
If anyone makes (his wife) wash and he washes himself
on Friday, goes out early (for Friday prayer), attends the
sermon from the beginning, walking, not riding, takes his
seat near the imam, listens attentively, and does not
indulge in idle talk, he will get the reward of a year's
fasting and praying at night for every step he takes.
It is mentioned that this is the greatest hadith in the
context of reward of deeds.
Seek the reward of your footsteps in inviting people to
Allah, helping those in need, attending to the needs of
your brothers, visiting the sick, attending the funerals and
similar acts. It is hoped from Allah that He will release us
from the hell fire.

7. Leniency of character:
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: Allah will make a person
forbidden to the hell fire who is soft, lenient and easy to
approach.
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) was extremely soft. If his
companions talked about this world, he (pbuh) talked
about it as well. If they talked about the Hereafter, he
(pbuh) talked about it as well and similarly with other
issues such as food. Just as Allah described him:
For the believers, full of pity, merciful.
So be lenient in all your affairs with people. Meet with
them cheerfully. Greeting your brother with a smiling face
is part of charity. Be forbearing not angry. Be soft and
dont turn off people. Your speech should be pleasing and
your heart should be soft. If your brother is upset, deal
with him gently and not with roughness. Do not forget,
that this behavior leads to freedom from the hell fire.

.
8. Good upbringing of daughters and sisters:
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said that if a person from my
community takes good care of three daughters or three
sisters, then they will be a source of protection from hell
fire for him.
In another hadith the Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: If a
person has three daughters and then he shows patience,
feeds them, gives them water to drink and provides proper
clothing for them from his effort, then they will be a
source of protection from hell fire for him on the Day of
Judgement.
So work towards earning and spend on your children and
sisters and seek reward for the time and money spent on
their upbringing. But be sincere in doing this and do not
do this to show off in front of people. Pay attention to
their education, try to make them memorize the Holy
Quran and teach them the Islamic dress code. Emphasize
good qualities. If you do this well, then Allah will grant

you the promised reward.

. ..

.
Free others and be free:
The divine wisdom and policy is that the reward of an
action is similar to it. So if a person wants to be freed
(from hell fire) tomorrow, then he should put forwards
actions that will lead to his own freedom.
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: If a Muslim man
emancipates a Muslim man, Allah, the Exalted, will make
every bone of his protection for every bone of his
emancipator from Hell; and if a Muslim woman
emancipates a Muslim woman, Allah will make every
bone of hers protection for every bone of her emancipator
from Hell on the Day of Resurrection.
If freeing of slaves is not feasible in our times, even then

the favor of Allah remains uninterrupted. So a person

should continue to do deeds that carry the reward of
freeing of slaves. These offerings, if accepted, will free
him from the hell fire

9. Sitting while engaged in the remembrance of Allah
after the Fajr prayers till the sunrise, and after the Asr
prayers till the sunset. This consists of saying Subhan

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: That I sit
with people remembering Allah from the time of the
Morning prayer up until sunrise is dearer to me than
emancipating four of Ismails progeny and for me to sit
with a group of people after the Asr prayer, remembering
Allah the Mighty and Majestic until the Sun sets is

more beloved to me than freeing four slaves from the

ten good deeds will be recorded for him, ten sins will be
eliminated from him, he will be upgraded ten degrees (in

reward), he will be rewarded for freeing a slave for each

word, he will be safeguarded from all kinds of harm all
that day, he will be guarded against shaytan and no sin can

And say Alhamdulillaah one hundred times, it is the

And say Allaahu akbar one hundred times, since it is the

deducted from his accounts, and it (his saying) will be a
shield for him from Satan on that day till night, and
nobody will be able to do a better deed except the one
who does more than he."
Narrated 'Amr bin Maimun: Whoever recites it (i.e., the
invocation in the above Hadith (412) ten times will be as
if he manumitted one of Ishmael's descendants. Abu
Aiyub narrated the same Hadith from the Prophet saying,

The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: Whoever went around the

he had freed a slave.
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: Whoever went around the
House seven times, it will be counted for him as if he
freed a slaved. He does not put one foot down or lift the
other one except that Allah removes his mistakes and
writes down good deeds for him.
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: Whoever goes around the

get the reward of freeing a slave.
O Allah make us perform Hajj and Umra and do not
prevent us from visiting Your Sacred House. Make a
determination to perform Hajj and Umra. If you are not
able to achieve this through action, you can still achieve

this through intention.

The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said:
"Some people have remained behind us in Medina and we
never crossed a mountain path or a valley, but they were
with us (i.e. sharing the reward with us), as they have been
held back by a (legal) excuse."
So people achieved the reward of Jihad without actually

action. So do not lose hope or say that this is not possible.

what he would dislike. Even if you are just listening to
this you will still be committing a sin unless you voice
your disapproval of it. If you are afraid to speak, then
disapprove it in your heart. If you are able to stand up and

interrupt the discussion, it is mandatory to do so.

Imam Al Ghazzali said that it was not sufficient to tell
someone to stop by pointing with hand, or raising ones
eyebrows or head of something like this since this is a
form of insult. The prevention of backbiting should be
done in a clear and unmistakable manner.

The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: Any Muslim who throws

This is for those who are obligated to fight. On the basis
of this report, the scholars emphasize the value of learning
archery and horse riding.

What if you are not in a position to fight physically?

Allah says: strike against them herewith with a great
endeavor. This implies striving with the Quran.
So throw an arrow in Allahs path by inviting people to
the religion. If one person is guided through your effort
then this would better than all the good things in this
world. A person who invites others to do good deeds is
like the one who performs them. Defend the book of Allah
by helping to propagate it. Defend the sunnah of the holy

the Paradise states that O Allah admit him into the

from the Hell fire except that it states O Allah protect him

Sufyan At Thawri would wake from his sleep frightened
and say, Fire ! Fire! He would say that the remembrance
of Hell fire had prevented him from sleeping and desires.
He would make ablution and would say afterwards: O
Allah you know what I want without me saying this, and I
do not want except the release of my neck from the Hell
fire.

It is mandatory that you supplicate to Allah to release your
neck and present yourself before Allah in totality and
complete presence of heart with humbles and humility.
You should face the Kaaba while in a state of purity,
praise Allah the way He deserves to be praised, raise your
hands, asking for forgiveness and making plenty of
repentance using Allahs beautiful names.
Do this at six special times for acceptance of prayers that

are the last third of night, at the time of the Adaan, (the
call to prayers), between the Adaan and the start of
obligatory prayers, at the end of the obligatory prayers,
between the Imam coming to the pulpit on Friday till the
end of the Friday prayers, and the last part of Friday after
the Asr prayers (between Asr and the sunset).
Make the above mentioned supplication repeatedly at
these special times and it is preferable to spend in charity
appropriate for this supplication. It is hoped that the
supplication will not rejected. This is mentioned by Ibn
Qayyum in his book Al Jawab-ul-Kafi.

20: Improving the act of fasting:
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: "Fasting is a shield with
which a servant protects himself from the Fire.
Allah has made fasting a substitute for compensation in
place of releasing slaves in the matters of remuneration
for unintentional murder, and compensation for Dhihar,
i.e., a person telling his wife that she is like his mothers

back to him.
Allah says:
the blood-money must be paid unto his folk and (also) a
believing slave must be set free. And whoso hath not the
wherewithal must fast two consecutive months. A penance
from Allah. Allah is Knower, Wise. (An Nisa 92)
Those who put away their wives (by saying they are as
their mothers) and afterward would go back on that which
they have said, (the penalty) in that case (is) the freeing of
a slave before they touch one another. Unto this ye are
exhorted; and Allah is Informed of what ye do.
And he who findeth not (the wherewithal), let him fast for
two successive months before they touch one another.
(Al Mujadila 3-4)

)1(.
Since fasting is a substitute for freeing slaves, and freeing
slaves is a means of freedom from Hellfire, that it is hoped
that a lot of fasting will be a means of obtaining it.
The act of fasting should be improved upon by abstaining

from the forbidden acts, and avoiding overindulgence in

allowable things. This would be like the fasting of body
parts. The fasting of heart requires avoiding everything
that interferes with ones preoccupation with Allah. Do
not spend too much time in engagement with worldly
affairs during the month of Ramadan since it provides
with an invaluable opportunity to earn Paradise and
salvation from Hell fire.

21: Providing food for the poor.
Allah prescribed feeding of poor as one of the means of
compensation for dhihar.
and for him who is unable to do so (the penance is) the
feeding of sixty needy ones. Al Mujadila 4
Allah made the feeding and provision of clothing for the
poor as means of compensation for breaking oaths.
Allah will not take you to task for that which is
unintentional in your oaths, but He will take you to task

for the oaths which ye swear in earnest. The expiation

thereof is the feeding of ten of the needy with the average
of that wherewith ye feed your own folk, or the clothing
of them, or the liberation of a slave, and for him who
findeth not (the wherewithal to do so) then a three days'
fast. This is the expiation of your oaths when ye have
sworn; and keep your oaths. Thus Allah expoundeth unto
you His revelations in order that ye may give thanks. Al

Some of the Israeli traditions mention that Prophet Musa
(pbuh) said to Allah that what would be the reward of a
person who fed the poor seeking only Allahs pleasure.
Allah said: O Musa (pbuh)! I order a caller to call out to
the creatures that so and so is among those who have been
freed from Hell fire.

Feeding the poor and the needy is a great act of excellence

in the Islamic ideology. It is regarded as one of the most
virtuous acts by Allah.
Abdullah bin Amr ibn Aas, may Allah be pleased with
him, mentionted that a person asked the Holy Prophet
(pbuh) about whose Islam was the best. The Holy Prophet
(pbuh) replied: That you provide food and give greetings
of peace to those you know as well those you do not
know.

happiness to a believer by removing his hunger, providing
him with clothing or fulfilling his needs.

Merciful, provide food and propagate the greetings of
peace, you will enter Paradise in peace.

Allah has special favors in Paradise for people who do
these acts.
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: There rooms in Paradie
whose outside can be seen from inside and whose inside
can be viewed from the outside.
Abu Malik Al Ashari said: To whom these rooms will be
given O Prophet of Allah (pbuh)?
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: These will be for those
whose speech is good, who provides food and spends his
nights standing in prayers while people are sleeping.

That kind of person will be counted among the most
virtuous of Allahs servants.

The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said: The best among you are
those who provide food.
It is sufficient (as a reward) that Allah will give him a
reward reserved for the Day of Judgement.
In a divine hadith Allah says: O son of Adam I asked you
for food but you did not feed Me.
The servant will say: O Lord how could I feed you while
You are the Lord of the Worlds?
Allah will say: Did you not know that such and such
servant of mine asked you for food but you did not feed
him? Did you now know that if you had fed him, you
would have found that (the ward of it) with me?
