This course operation management is designed to address the key operations and logistical issues in service and manufacturing organizations that have strategic as well as tactical implications. The specific objectives of this course include: 1. To understand the role of operations management in the overall business strategy of the firm. 2. To understand the interdependence of the operating system with other key functional areas of the firm. 3. To identify and evaluate the key factors and the interdependence of these factors in the design of effective operating systems. 4. To identify and evaluate a range of tools appropriate for analysis of operating systems of the firm. 5. To identify and evaluate comparative approaches to operations management in a global context. Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to: Discuss the role and importance of the operations function in organizations. Explain the effects of the evolution of total quality management, supply chain management, and manufacturing control systems in global business. Recognize and apply basic appropriate analytical techniques related to decision making in quality control, forecasting, project management, and waiting lines. Recognize and apply basic appropriate analytical techniques related to decision making in supply chains, inventory theory, and inventory control systems. Individually journal article. Demonstrate efficient team activity in a project based on Learning Curve applications. Explain quality management, and apply quality management techniques to improve operations in a given situation. Select and justify appropriate facilities to ensure efficient provision of a product. Discuss the role of project management, and apply appropriate project management techniques in a given situation. Discuss performance management and determine appropriate performance measures for an operations system(s). Understand capacity management, apply techniques relating to resource planning, and recommend appropriate actions in a given situation.
