Listening-Thinking Activity

Lesson Objeetive:
The student will better his predicting skills

Anticipatory Set:
I will let Jeffpick what colorjournal he would like. Then we will look at the cover of the Amelia Bedelia book. We will make predictions about what we think the book will be about. We will write these in the first page of our journals.

Input:
Book: Arnelia Bedelia and the babyby PeggyParish Items needed: Journals After looking at the cover we will read the book together. After ever few pages we will 'We stop to write in our journals. will write\ wonder'ltatements, and we will write prediction statements.

Modeling:
use ourjournals to write down what we think will happen in the book. To show this we will read a few pages. After reading I will stop and make an I wonder statement, and write it in my journal. Nextrl will make a prediction and write it in my journal. The whole time I'm doing this I will think out loud so Jeff understand what I'm doing.

Checking for Understanding

I will ask Jeffwhat we will do after we stop reading every few pages. If he does not know I will let him look in his joumal and see if he can tell me from that.

Guided Practice:
We will take turns reading the pages in the book. About every five pages we will stop to make I wonder statements, and to make predictions. After we write we will compare what \ire wrote with each other. Then we keep reading for five more pages, then stop to do the same thing. At this time we will look back at our predictions and see what ones were correct. We will highlight all the ones that we got correct. We will continue doing this for the whole book.
