Owatonna Clinic Completes Recertification for Accredited OB/GYN Practice

Owatonna, Minn. Owatonna Clinic Mayo Health System is pleased announce it has completed the recertification process for ultrasound practice accreditation for its Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN) practice until 2014. The accreditation comes from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), which is a multidisciplinary association of more than 8700 physicians, sonographers, and scientists dedicated to advancing the safe and effective use of ultrasound in medicine though professional and publication education, research, development of guidelines, and accreditation. I am pleased to announce that we have received continued accreditation for OB/GYN Ultrasound from the AIUM, said Derek Beyer, M.D., Chair of the OB/GYN department at Owatonna Clinic. It is an important measure of quality in providing ultrasound services for our patients, and a sign of our continued efforts to provide our community with high quality medical care within the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology. To receive accreditation, Owatonna Clinic had to meet a rigorous list of guidelines and a review by the AIUM Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council. Specific guidelines include, but are not limited to proper ultrasound equipment & maintenance records; policies, procedures, and ultrasound examination protocols; and licensure and certification of physicians and sonographers. Owatonna Clinic first received accreditation in 2002 and has maintained it since then. Owatonna Clinic is currently the only Mayo Health System site in Minnesota accredited by the AIUM.
