The field resistance of the machine is adjusted to 354.3 Q and the speed is 300 rpm. If the generator is run self-excited: a) Determine graphically the no-load voltage. b) Determine the critical field resistance. c) Determine the critical speed for the given field resistance d) What additional resistance must be inserted in the field circuit to reduce the no-load voltage to 175 V?

The armature resistance including that of brushes is 0.02 a) Calculate the resistance of the shunt field circuit when the no load voltage is the rated voltage at a speed of 1200 rev/min. b) With the resistance of the shunt-field as in part (i), neglecting the effect of armature reaction, determine the terminal voltage when the armature current is 1000A and the speed is 1200 rev/min c) If the demagnetizing mmf of armature reaction corresponding to a field current of 0.4A, how would the answer in part (b) be affected?
