General Considerations and Guidelines in writing a questionnaire

Questionnaires affect the validity of the research. It is very important, therefore, that questionnaires be well prepared and well constructed in order to minimize non-response.
Language The words you use for your questionnaire should be specific, concrete and precise. Avoid using jargon and abbreviations which might be unknown to your respondents. Relevance All the questions should be in line with the researchers topic and purpose. To be relevant, researchers should do some research on what would be the most appropriate questions to their respondents. Information Level Do not ask questions to which the respondents cannot give answers. Complexity Make sure that your language is a simple and clear for a limited amount of information.

Consider the question of anonymity Avoid putting personal questions or requiring personal information in your questionnaire. If your questionnaire contains sensitive or personal questions, you need to convince potential respondents that their answers will be confidential. If not, they will not respond. Interesting Make your questions as interesting as possible. Interesting questions attract respondents to go on more with your survey. Understandable Make sure the your questions are understandable. Making it more easier for the respondents to answer. Importance Make sure that your questionnaire is important to the topic. Avoid putting questions just for the sake of asking.
