YEAR 9 MEDIA ASSESSMENT

TASK: You are to create a performance of text for listening audience. A listening audience is one that take its information from you through the spoken words that you use. Your task is to analyse how a particular media type (news papers, blogs, texting etc.) uses language to communicate meaning to its audience. OPTIONS: Some options for the assessment are: 1. podcast 2. a recorded interview 3. a video documentary OR skit 4. a live class delivery 5. a voice-over power point / key note 6. if you can think of another option, see your teacher for approval TIME: 4 5 minutes SUGGESTIONS: 1. decide on your assessment genre 2. go to the www and investigate how your presentation should look / be structured 3. research your information use the www, the School Resource Centre and any other information source you know 4. create a plan to use this information 5. create your assessment 6. get some peer feedback 7. present your task on the due date SOME EXAMPLES: (this is not an exhaustive list, so think of your own) 1. a podcast explaining to an audience of parents how a particular media communicates 2. an interview with a parent discussing the dangers of sexting 3. an explanatory guide to Facebook 4. an analytical comparison of how two types of media use language Things I want to explore
