FALL RALLY 2013

This years annual Fall Rally had the largest turn out to date, and Fall Rally was an enormous success. Over three thousand Key Clubbers all over New Jersey attended, and we even Photography by Shannon Peng exceeded the district attendance goal! The day started out with Key Clubbers arriving at Six Flags, which opened early just for us! Then, after our customary club picture in front of the park gates, our club went to a statewide meeting to learn about what Key Club was accomplishing at a state level. We listened to each division leader talk about the money being raised and charities being supported in their district. It was amazing to learn how much each division was accomplishing itself, and the amount of change all twenty-one divisions achieved was mind blowing. The information session lasted for about an hour, and once it ended everyone was let loose in the park. What followed was a fun-filled day riding roller coasters, eating fried food and playing boardwalk games. Everyone who went had an amazing time. After all, is there any more fun way to support charities than by going to an amusement park? There was also a school supply drive, Tools for Schools, which accepted our supply donations to help less fortunate schools. The supply drive was incredibly successful and will help many students all over New Jersey to succeed. I hope that all of you will join us for next years Fall Rally and help make our annual event an even bigger success. The Millburn Key October 2013 Volume 4 Issue 5 Page 2

HATS OFF FOR CANCER

By Darren Khong, Committee Head Hats Off For Cancer was originally an event begun by the Millburn Regional Day School in order to help raise money for children undergoing chemotherapy. Children would order a hand-made pin, and then come in to school wearing a hat to show support for the event. Afterwards, the Millburn High School Key Club was contacted to organize a similar event in the high school for the same cause. We took a similar approach by selling ribbons for $2 to fellow students, and then on October 18th, those who purchased a ribbon wore a hat during school to show their support for the cause. It was great to see so many students showing their support that day, and thank you to those who helped to sell and make the ribbons. As a club, we were able to raise a total of $74 for a great foundation that will help many!

SHORT HILLS STREET FAIR

By Kunal Palawat, General Member On Sunday November 3rd, Millburn and Short Hills had a Crafts Fair. And Key Club had a booth! From 11-4, various Key Clubbers came and asked people for donations for Eliminate. Many people seemed interested in our cause and we raised around 80 dollars. Although not many people were at the fair, I think those who we did reach were interested and cared (and the candy didnt hurt our cause!). And no, we did not just sit on our butts and beg for donations. We Key Clubbers got off our seats and walked up and down Millburn Avenue for hours, going up to people and asking for donations. People did not seem to mind our incessant requests too much, and some even donated a few extra dollars to save a few more lives. The street fair had some pretty interesting stuff. For one, there were potatoes and Radio Disney, who could ask for more? One lady was selling reindeer she had made out of logs of wood, and another booth sold homemade soaps. There were lots of artists as well. Cant forget face painting! But I think the best was the musician on stilts (see extremely tall person in the picture on the right). He improvised songs on his ukulele for all the people at the fair. There was also an actual band playing some classics during the fair. Ignoring the biting cold, rude candy thieves, obnoxious children, and lack of a fancy booth, I think this years Short Hills Street Fair was a great success.

TALENT SHOW 2013

By Karen Fich, Vice President Photography by Karen Fich and Shannon Peng Key Clubs 10th annual talent show took place on Saturday, October 19th, 2013 at 7:00pm. Over $700 was raised for the Eliminate Project! The event was made possible by the meticulous planning of Leonard Santos and Miranda Kasher. Thanks to their organized planning, Les Misrables Broadway star Natalie Weiss hosted the show. There were incredibly humorous jokes between the acts centered on the theme of Halloween. Leonard was scared of ghosts and did some funny skits in between the acts. The acts were absolutely phenomenal. There was so much talent out there that Im sure it was difficult for guest judges Carolyn English and Sean Killary to rank the winners. Nevertheless, the Irish step dancers (Amanda Lewton, Kara Grzeszczak and Clare Hernon) received first place. Hassan Syed received second place with his hip hop dance routine. And lastly, Jake Gluckman, with his selfcomposed piece, Compass, tied for third place with Shantanu Laghate, Satyen Gupta and Alex Ren, who performed Secrets by OneRepublic. The show also featured performances from Anya Parker-Lentz, Alana Yeager, Stephanie Cabrera, Flora Sugarman, Nicole Levine, Aanchal Sahay, Robby Aronson, Dan Abrams, Alec Gevarter, Ethan Diamond, Dani Hilzenrath, Sam and Ben Dantowitz, Andrew Afable, Soulfege and Jon Bain, as well as an outstanding performance from Natalie Weiss herself! Overall, it was an amazing show. It would not be possible without the help of all the dedicated Key Clubbers who contributed that night! Special thanks to everyone who came out! Last year we collected a record-breaking amount of food, and this year we hope to break that record. All unsold Entertainment Books and money should be returned to the officers.
