Statement of Intent For the Portraiture project I intend to show natural emotion.

My idea is to take a human reaction and try to capture it in its most natural and unintentional form. For this I plan to set up studio lighting where I will sit my models down without telling them what I plan to shoot. I will then setup certain scenarios, such as showing the subject a video that will inflict unplanned emotions on their faces. During this period I will try to capture the reactions from a tether while they watch the videos. For the light setup I want to use a white backdrop and use an Octobox because I want to create a shadow free, uncontaminated feel to the pictures and I believe that making the scene as simple as possible will help me achieve this. I also plan to use a Digital Medium Format camera so that I can capture the sharpest images possible. This is because I want to create four pictures that are the opposite of a standard commercial portrait, which are often airbrushed, posed and often look completely different from the original picture.
