! A hiccup is an involuntary spasm of the diaphragm that makes a distinctive sound. To start with, there are many internal causes for the hiccups. Drinking alcohol, eating excessive amounts too quickly, and sudden change in your stomach temperature, such as drinking something hot then something cold are common causes for the hiccups. Hiccups can also be caused by shock, stress, and excitement. Moreover, believe it or not you, can get hiccups from external things. Things such as smoking, harmful fumes, and a sudden change in room temperature can cause the hiccups. Some medications, such as opiates, benzodiazepines, anesthesia, corticosteroids, barbiturates, and mythyldopa can cause hiccups as well. All in all, a hiccup is an unneeded movement in our bodies. !

! Hiccups can do some pretty terrible things to you when you think about it. As you can see, intractable hiccups is the worst case of hiccups you can get. Charles Osborne had hiccups for 68 years. They randomly stopped at the age of ninety-seven, and he died at ninety-eight. Intractable hiccups can even cause death or depression. Furthermore, prolonged hiccups will interfere with your drinking and eating. With prolonged hiccups, you will hiccup between four to sixty times a minute which would make it very difcult to drink or eat. Your sleeping would also be interfered with because the hiccups are bound to keep you up at night. In conclusion, hiccups can make your life absolutely petrifying.
