Daily Lesson Plan Your Name: Kelsey Keithler Date: October 7th, 2013 1.

Overall lesson topic: (What do I want students to learn?) Alliteration 2. Rationale: (How does it link to curriculum, GLCE or Common Core?) RL.7.4- Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of rhymes and other repetitions of sounds (e.g., alliteration) on a specific verse or stanza of a poem or section of a story or drama. 3. Describe readiness level of children based on prior instruction and/or pre-assessments. Students may have gotten this information in elementary school; however, I am treating this as the introduction lesson and do not expect any of my students to have any knowledge of alliteration.

4. Materials/supplies needed for this lesson: Book, Animalia by Graeme Base 5. Introduction to the lesson: (what will I say or do to motivate/help the children understand the purpose and/or make connections, and/or become engaged in the lesson) Estimated time: _____2 mins_____________ Today, I am going to read you a book called Animalia. It is by Graeme Base. This book uses a literary element called alliteration. As I read try to figure out what an alliteration is.

6. Outline key events during the lesson: (activities, key questions or examples, modeling, etc.) Estimated time:________20-30 min_________ Read Animalia Ask students to define an alliteration o Write definitions on the board Discuss where students have seen alliterations before o Write on board o Bring up poem if the students do not come up with this example themselves i.e. The Raven by Poe or Clooney the Clown by Silverstein

7. Closure: (How will I help children reflect or make connections? How will I assess what was learned?) Estimated time: ____20-30 min_____________ Have students begin making their own alliteration using the first letter of their name If students finish their alliteration, have students write a poem using alliteration

8. Reflective Analysis: (What did I learn about your students, content, and myself as a teacher? What would I do differently and why? What do I need to learn more about?)
