Concussions are REAL

A concussion is an injury to the brain that can be caused by a blow to the head, a hard hit to the body, whiplash type event. A concussion does not need to have a loss of consciousness to be a serious injury. A concussion is commonly referred to as a brain bruise, however; this is not accurate. A concussion is a total change in the way the brain works. Some common signs and symptoms of a concussion include: Headache, Dizziness, Nausea/Vomiting, Feeling sluggish, Hazy or groggy, Sensitivity to light and sound, Balance problems, Fatigue, Sleeping more or less than normal, Memory problems, Difficulty concentrating, Mood swings.

NON-SPORTS RELATED
Refer to Primary Care Physician or Convenient Care Initial treatment for concussions is rest and sleep Speech and Occupational Therapy evaluations may be appropriate if cognition, memory, concentration, vision, etc. are not improving.
