Message from the IJF President

Budapest November 13, 2013

Dear Judoka, For the third year in a row, the judo family has celebrated World Judo Day on 28 October, a day dedicated to the values of our sport all over the globe. We hold the World Judo Day on this date as it is the birthday of Master Jigoro Kano who showed Perseverance to develop judo as more than a sport. He wanted to enrich peoples lives and societies around the world using judo as a method of self-development and physical activity. Perseverance was the theme of the 2013 World Judo Day and is one of the core values of our sport. It is a quality required at all levels of judo and in life. I am very proud of your tireless efforts to promote judo and its values by hosting a special World Judo Day event. It is vitally important to recognise and think about the values judo has transferred into your everyday life and to share your experiences with your fellow judoka, friends and family. The values of judo are ingrained in dojos around the world and are exhibited by people of all ages, abilities, races and from all walks of life on a daily basis. I thank you for your participation in the 2013 World Judo Day and your continued contributions the global development of judo. Best regards,
