Explain: State the procedure: Today we will learn when and how this class will be dismissed. Generate Rationale: Good use of instructional time Safety of the students Ensure that students have written down their homework assignment Prevent students from forgetting their personal belongings
Explain and model the procedure: When teacher announces that it is close to the end of the period, students will: Put away homework and other papers in their binders Make sure their planners are filled out Make sure they do not leave anything behind Remain seated until the teacher dismisses them
Check for understanding: Why is it important to wait to be dismissed? When can students put away their stuff? When can students get up to leave?
Rehearse: During the first three weeks of school, the teacher will briefly review the procedure with all students and reinforce this practice.
