FACE OF HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES

DR. ALLEN KELLER

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE, NYU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE,


DIRECTOR OF THE BELLVUE/NYU PROGRAM FOR SURVIVORS OF TORTURE
(PSOT) AND DIRECTOR OF THE NYU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE CENTER FOR
HEALTH AND HUMAN RIGHTS (CHHR).
Dr. Keller is recognized internationally for his expertise in evaluating, documenting,
and caring for victims of human rights abuses. PSOT provides comprehensive
interdisciplinary medical, mental health, and social/legal services to survivors of
torture and other human rights abuses. In the past year alone PSOT has cared for
approximately 800 men, women and children from over 80 different countries. Dr.
Keller oversees bioethics education at the NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Kellers
current work includes focusing on the health consequences of immigration detention,
as well as working to prevent future US health professional participation in
torture. He has received numerous awards for his work , including the Barbara
Chester award from the Hopi foundation and the NYU Distinguished Alumnus of the
Year. Dr. Kellers wife, Suzy is a leading advocate in the field of domestic
violence. They have two beautiful children, Rachel, age 16 and Jake, 13.
