and had many suggestions on how we can make it better. Although we are not able to implement this Council immediately, we are continuously working diligently to improve the proposal to present to the Board again. Additionally, the Executive Director, Soror Stacye Montez, and Tessa Lyons of LeanIn.org met with the four of us to discuss a National partnership with LeanIn.org. This organization was created by Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, to encourage women to lean in to their ambitions. It is grounded by a series of peer circles guided by a specific discussion topic. We are still in the research and development phase of this partnership and will be finalizing our plans of implementation in the weeks to come. On Feb. 8, I traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana for the Southern Regions Undergraduate Leadership Retreat. I facilitated a workshop titled Undergraduate Leadership, and about 50 Undergraduates were in attendance. Some of the key points of the workshop included a leadership personality test, assessment of ones current level of leadership (according to John C. Maxwells Five Levels of Leadership), and discussion groups where we shared our experiences with our peers. I received much positive feedback and felt that the workshop was very effective and useful for the Undergraduates as they are now able to bring the tools they learned back to their chapters. I was also able to converse with Soror Jana Myles, the Southern Regional Undergraduate Member at Large, to discuss possible ways to improve communication so that Undergraduates are able to receive necessary information in a timely manner. Lastly, the Undergraduate Representatives on the Board along with the National Third Anti-Basileus, launched our first Undergraduate Webinar series on Feb. 9. Soror Marjorie McCowan, National Undergraduate Representative to the Executive Committee hosted the webinar and Soror Jessica Holden, National Undergraduate Representative to the National Nominating Committee and I answered questions that attendees asked. We will be continuing our series with one webinar each month on various topics that Undergraduates would like assistance with, such as budgeting, chapter marketing, and fundraising. The date and time of the March webinar will be announced at a later time and I encourage all Undergraduates to attend and participate. I feel very fortunate to be serving the Sorority in this capacity and I hope that our efforts are useful tools for Undergraduates to enhance their chapter operations and give them the confidence to pursue longevity within Zeta. I thank my Sorors of New Jersey for their continued support and I will be sure to keep you updated!

Parliamentary Corner: Understanding Motions

By Soror Titessa Smith, State Parliamentarian

Adapted from www.roberts-rules.com Survival Tips on Roberts Rules of Order

The power to amend any motion leads to a quick compromise which pleases most of the members. Notice that amending the following motions makes no sense - the members either allow the action to occur or they do not allow it. Become familiar with those motions that can be made without opposing debate or modification!
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Call for the Orders of the Day. Call for the Division of the Assembly. Lay on the Table/Take from the Table. Dispense with Reading of the Minutes. Objection to the Consideration of the Question. Postpone Indefinitely. Previous Question (Close Debate). Parliamentary Inquiry. Point of Information.

10. Point of Order. 11. Raise a Question of Privilege. 12. Suspend the Rules. 13. Appeal from the Decision of the Chair. 14. Reconsider a Motion.
