Lesson Plan Students Teaching Day 12

Lesson Title: Progressive Era Politics Grade Level: 10 1. Goals: HS.1. Evaluate continuity and change over the course of world and US History. HS.10. Evaluate an historical source for view point and historical context. 2. HS.20. Analyze the impact on physical and human systems (irrigation) of resource development, use and management and evaluate the issues of sustainability. 3. HS.24. Analyze and critique the impact on constitutional amendments. 4. Objectives Students will read President Theodore Roosevelts Grand Canyon Speech and analyze it for details, perspective and knowledge of daily life in the West. Students will listen to a lecture about the three Progressive Era Presidents, Roosevelt, Taft, Wilson and take notes. Students will watch a video to reinforce the lecture notes and add more detail. Students will learn the four Progressive Era amendment and their lasting effects. 5. Prerequisite Knowledge/Skills: This lecture will build on the previous lecture- Womens Rights and Suffrage. Students should have some background knowledge of the topics discussed and should have completed the reading for homework. 6. Materials/Equipment/Supplies/Technology: Reading #4 PowerPoint Overhead projector 7. Procedure: 1.) Students should hand in Life and Times and Timeline assignment. 2.) Students have five minutes to discuss their reading. Additional critical thinking: How can we use irrigation responsibly? 3.) Take up the answers to the reading with the class. 4.) Lecture: 1.)
