In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Survivor is the name of our film. We decided to have the title come up at the end of the film as most horror/thriller films have theirs appear then also. We wanted to make the title stand out so we designed it in white bold lettering in front of a completely black background.
Our title at the end of film.

We decided to use one location and that location would be a desolate forest. The reason for this is many horror movies especially in 80s were filmed in generic forests so we wanted to emulate this feeling of old horror with a modern day twist.

We decided to use generic camera shots and movements such as panning and extreme close ups. This was due to the fact that again in generic horror movies such as Friday the 13th or nightmare on elm street the directors chose to use these shots to create tension and focus in on the facial reactions. We also used a lot of jump cuts and use of flashbacks to connect various scenes together.

We wanted our storyline to be as basic and simple as possible so it could pay homage to the old school horror movies. The plot is that a teenager wakes up dazed and confused in a desolate forest alone and being hunted by an unseen beast.

Our film only features two characters; Tyler a 18 year old male. The Beast - an unseen yet deadly predator. We didnt want our characters to have depth, we wanted them to be as generic as possible as thats what most horror films do and they are usually very successful.
