DALLAS EXECUTIVE AIRPORT HOSTS TOWN HALL MEETING ON THURSDAY, APRIL 3 AT 6:30 PM TO DISCUSS RUNWAY EXTENSIONS AND REINFORCEMENTS Dallas residents in neighborhoods most impacted by increased traffic plans at Dallas Executive Airport (formerly Red Bird Airport) have requested a town hall meeting with regard to the approved new runway expansion program that was previously announced by city council member/Economic Development Chair, Tennell Atkins on February 3 in the Dallas News. When area residents reached out to City Aviation Director Mark Duebner, he was welcoming and agreeable to hosting a meeting at the Dallas Executive Airport Conference Center, 5303 Challenger on Thursday, April 3rd at 6:30pm. All city council members in the southern sector have been invited to attend this meeting to hear their constituents concerns and questions. Areas of concern focus on noise abatement, potential economical and environmental impact due to larger jets that would be landing at the airport. The residents are asking to have transparent conversations with city leaders to discuss the positive and negative impacts on their neighborhoods for decades in the future. The goal for this expansion project is to bring more air traffic via larger, private jet landings that weigh up to 90,000 lbs to the airport, rather than landing at Addison and Love Field respectively. Dallas residents have been concerned about the lack of notification and communication regarding the expansion plans. A vote to allocate $3 million towards the new construction project was unanimously approved by a city council vote on February 12, 2014 via consent agenda, with construction to begin this Summer. The State of Texas has agreed to spend $35 million on the project. Neighbors are particularly concerned that a public meeting is being held only at their request prior to the approval of a new master plan for Dallas Executive Airport that has not yet been released by City Staff. All Dallas residents living in the Oak Cliff area surrounding Dallas Executive Airport are encouraged to attend this very important town hall meeting to begin a conversation with City of Dallas officials. # # #
