Cassie Chiusolo Dystopian Disasters There are many factors that could cause a dystopian society to occur.

Some of these examples would be cloning, NSA surveillance, religion, war, and social stratification. Cloning is creating an organism that is genetically identical to another organism. Cloning can lead to the decrease of individuality. By creating clones, humans may be used as robots by a higher source and may loose their freedom of the mind and the will. Another cause would be surveillance of the government. The National Security Agency, or NSA, is responsible for the management of signals intelligence and information for assurance of the United States government. The NSAs Spying Program may lead to a dystopian society. Spying may lead to the government controlling what the people see on the Internet and what the people are able to do in general. Internet censorship may also occur. Another problem that would lead to a dystopian society would be religion. Religious groups can obtain the power of oppression. Many countries, such as Iran, abuse the power of religion by persecuting those who do not follow the correct religion. This may lead to the overall control of people and their beliefs not only in religion, but also of politics and other important topics. Another major cause would be war. An overly powerful government may have the power to abuse its military power against the people and force them to do as they please. An example of this was used in the novel, 1984 by George Orwell, when the government would use the image of war to scare the people and to punish them for not following the rules of society. The final cause of a dystopia would be social stratification. The use of classification in society can also lead to the government controlling the peoples thought process and beliefs. In the novel Brave New World, the people were classified as either: alpha, beta, gamma, delta, or epsilon. This lead to complete government takeover and to the people of this system having no individual thought processes. There are multiple ways that could lead a world into a dystopia,

Cassie Chiusolo such as cloning, NSA surveillance, religion, war, and social stratification. But, precautions can be taken to avoid such a fate.
