    File Extension XPI

    File extension XPI stands for XPInstall (Cross-platform Install). It is pronounced as "zippy" and stands for a ZIP file which contains install script and a number of data files.

    Files with XPI extensions are mostly used to provide updates for Mozilla Firefox.

    Download of XPI files other from Mozilla sites are blocked by default.

    If you have XPI file in the system you can open it using any ZIP archiver by renaming XPI file to ZIP. The only other application which can read XPI files correctly is Mozilla Firefox.
