-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1. Installing the game IMPORTANT: Close all applications before installing the game. To install/uninstall the game on Windows(R) 2000/XP operating systems you need to have administrative priviledges. DO NOT install the game directly in the root directory on the disk dr ive or in the Windows folder. Insert the game CD into your CD-ROM drive. If Autoplay is enabled on your comput er, a popup menu will appear. If Autoplay is not enabled or the popup window does no t appear, run the application CDBrowse.exe from the game CD. If the game is not installed on your PC, only three options are available: a. Install - Installs the game on your computer. b. Install DirectX - Installs DirectX 8.1 on your computer. Use this opt ion if DirectX is not already present on your system and was not installed b y the game installer, or if you want to reinstall/repair DirectX 8.1. c. Exit - Closes the window. If the game is already installed on your PC, two additional options are availabl e: d. Play - Launches the game e. Uninstall - uninstalls the game from your computer. To install the game you need to have a minimum of 650 MB free on your computer. If you do not

have this space available, try deleting the temporary files or uninstall some ap plications that you no longer need. When you run the installation for the first time you will be prompted to select the installation language. On slow computers, during the installation, small delays might appear before win dows appear or before installation finish dialog is displayed. Please be patient and wait fo r the installation to be completed. Near the end of the installation you will be prompted to install DirectX 8.1 if it is not already installed or you have an older version. Choose Yes. When prompted to choose the video driver, choose OpenGL or Direct3D, depending o n your video card performance. For example, for NVidia based video cards, OpenGL is pre ffered. For other video cards, DirectX might give you better performance for this game. On some computers, at the end of the installation, a window prompting you to reb oot the computer will appear. This is because the game installer has updated your Window s Installer service to version 2.0 or has installed DirectX. Please reboot the computer to c omplete the installation. After the installation is completed, the popup window will reappear with all men u options enabled. You can now choose 'Play' to launch the game. To uninstall the program, use the Add/Remove Programs applet, use the uninstall icon from the game programs menu group, or insert the game CD and choose Uninstall from th e popup menu. You can also run the setup program directly, from the game CD, by running Setup. exe. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------2. Installing DirectX If you already have DirectX 8.1 installed you may skip this section. This game needs at least DirectX 8.1 or later to run. On the game CD there is th e setup kit for DirectX 8.1. During the game installation, if you have an older version of DirectX than the o ne on CD, you will be prompted to update your version. Choose Yes and wait for the DirectX ins

tallation to be completed. A small delay (up to 15 seconds) might appear before the DirectX inst allation window appears. Please be patient. If the game did not prompt you for the DirectX installation or the DirectX insta llation was not completed succesfully, you may run the DirectX setup from the CD Autoplay me nu or directly by running dxsetup.exe found in Support\DirectX81 directory on the game CD. Also, you can download and install any newer versions of DirectX directly from M icrosoft web site. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------3. Game requirements MINIMAL configuration required Processor: 500 MHz Intel Pentium(R) III or similar Operating system: Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98SE/ME/2000/XP Memory: 128 MB RAM Video card: 32 MB VRAM 3D AGP accelerated, hardware T&L, OpenGL or DirectX 8.1 c ompatible Hard disk space: 650 MB free RECOMMENDED configuration Processor: 1 GHz Intel Pentium(R) III or similar Operating system: Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98SE/ME/2000/XP Memory: 256 MB RAM Video card: 64 MB VRAM 3D AGP accelerated, hardware T&L, OpenGL or DirectX 8.1 c ompatible Sound card: PCI, DirectSound 8 compatible Hard disk space: 650 MB free NOTES: An additional 50 MB free hard disk space may be required to run the game (for vi rtual memory) if your system has not enough RAM. DirectX 8.1 is included on the game CD. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------4. Game playing issues When playing the game, no other program should be running in the background. For

optimum results, make sure you close all programs before launching the game, including c urrent programs on the notification area (icon bar next to the clock on the Windows 9x task bar). If you have to go back into Windows during the game, we advise you to quit the g ame by pressing the [ESC] key, then select 'Quit' or 'Exit game' in the following menus to retur n to Windows. The [ALT+TAB] function can be accessed while the game is running. However, we ad vise you not to use it too often so as not to slow down the game's performance. You can deactivate certain elements to make the game run faster. In the main men u, click on the Settings menu. From here, you can modify the sound and graphics options for optimal performance on your computer. For example, deactivating the dynamic car shadows and adjusting the rendering di stance will increase the game frame rate. To check or adjust the game controls see the Settings / Controls page accessible from the main menu. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------5. Video It is recommended to install the latest drivers for your card. Also, it is recom mended to adjust your video options according with your graphic card capabilities, in o rder to obtain an acceptable frame rate. Motion Blur is an expensive feature (available only on OpenGL mode), which works only on powerful graphic cards. If enabling motion blur causes FPS dropping or leads to other video misbehavior, you must disable it. On some ATI cards, under OpenGL, some problems may appear on cars (missing trian gles, incorrect car lighting). The future releases of ATI OpenGL drivers may fix these problems. The current video drivers for Savage 4 chipset don't seem to provide enough supp ort for this game. This game does not work properly or provides poor perfomance on 3dfx Voodoo grap hic cards or older Matrox graphic cards (G450, G550). Also only OpenGL mode is supported o n these cards.

You can download the latest video drivers from the card or chipset manufacturer site. Sound It is recommended to install the latest drivers for your sound card. (Please che ck the sound card producer's web site for updated versions of your sound drivers.) If some sounds are not heard, check your sound configuration setting. (If you hear a noisy sound) Some sound cards (or sound drivers) seem to fail when it comes to wave volume pr ocessing. All you need to do is to use a lower setting for the 'General' slider in the sou nd configuration page of the menu. You need an EAX 2.0 compatible sound card in order to hear EAX effects. Input devices It is recommended to install the latest drivers for your input devices. Please be sure all gaming devices (joystick, wheel, etc.) are centered and that no button is pressed before launching the game. Otherwise, you will experience limited axis r anges or even a misinterpretation of device input.

(If force feedback effects are not playing) Some force feedback devices need a button click in order to enable force feedbac k effects. This is a protection implemented by some manufacturers (for example Microsoft's SideWinder Force Feedback 2 Joystick) just in case you are not actually using the device and the software your computer is executing starts the effects. In such cases the devices should not p lay any force feedback effect so you need to press a device button in order to "feel" the game . Security issues On the operating systems which support security and user rights (Windows NT/2000 /XP) the following information regards security issues: - The game sets full access rights to the following directory: Data\Save The rights are set for the following accounts: SYSTEM, Administrator and Everyon e This is required so that the players can save their games successfully. If you want to restrict the user rights to these directories you can do so, but you can affect the user possibility to save the championships, replays, ghosts, settings. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------9.
