Caroline Chisholm was born at Northampton 30th of May in 1808, and died in London, 25th of March in 1877. And yet regarded Australia as her adopted land. She was born Caroline Johns When Caroline came to Australia she lived in a cottage

WHAT CONTRIBUTION DID CAROLINE MAKE TO THE WORLD?


In 1841 she approached the governor, Sir George Gipps, to ask for help in finding a place to house immigrant women. Eventually he agreed and gave her an abandoned, rat-infested army barracks.

Caroline dedicated her life to helping others across the world (mostly women)

WHY DID CAROLINE TAKE THIS PATH IN HER LIFE?


At that time Sydney was a convict settlement. Mrs Chisholm was shocked at the situation of many immigrants, particularly women, who had come to start a new life. Many people were without jobs or money, many lived on the streets. Captain Chisholm returned to work in 1840, though his wife and their three sons (they eventually had six children) remained in Sydney where Caroline Chisholm set about assisting the needy.

HOW DID CAROLINE WORK MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD?


Caroline Chisholm got to work setting up a shelter that housed 96 women. It helped them not to having to live in the streets. She even sheltered some of them in her house.

She helped them get jobs and a home.

Caroline Chisholm was on the $5 note. she was on the 5c stamp. Her husbands name was Captain Chisholm. She helped other people come to live in Australia. At the age of 22 she married Captain Archibald Chisholm

Many people were poor and had no place to live.


Caroline Chisolm came to Australia a long time ago. has respect for life, is compassionate and caring, values social justice, believes in empowerment of women and families, recognises diversity, and operates accountably according to best practice.
