ABSTRACT

REHABILITATION OF MID FACIAL DEFECTS - RESTORING THE LOST HOPE The most challenging and appreciated area in the field of Prosthodontics is the rehabilitation of maxillofacial defects. The art of maxillofacial prosthetics restores esthetics and function in patients with gross developmental or acquired midfacial defects. Surgical reconstruction of large facial defects is not possible at times due to extensive loss of tissues. Multidisciplinary treatment planning is essential to achieve adequate retention and function of the prosthesis. The prosthodontists plays a significant role in the intervention and improve the quality of life of such patients. In these cases, prosthetic restoration of lost facial tissues can be done by using maxillofacial prosthesis. With the introduction of new materials life-like appearance can be provided to such prosthetic restorations e.g. silicone and poly-ether rubbers. The use of implants to retain these prostheses has set up new horizons in their rehabilitation. This poster presents a case series on prosthetic rehabilitation of the various midfacial defects.
