A She was a witness

B She was a suspect
C She was a victim

I am innocent! I protested.
The usual treatment for a suspect was g iven to me. I was calledinto the lady
wardens room anda complete search was done on me.Next, all mything s in mybag s
andlocker were searched.Ofcourse,it was a veryembarrassingexperience.I am sure
you know that all teenage girls have some personal secrets in their bags or locker
which theywouldnot want others to lookat or to know. Finally ,the wardens toldme
that there was no evidence ag ainst me but investigation wouldcontinue andI maybe
calledup again later.
I was curious whythe warden suspectedme.I was determinedto know wha t
exactlyhappenedso I went to meet a warden andaskedher whytheysuspectedit was I
who stole the money .Then the cat was let out of the bag!It seems that mybest friend
Sha f ramedme! She was the one who misledthe wardens to believe that I hadstole n
the money .Myheart was brok en into pieces.
How couldshe do such a thing ?Whydidshe do such a thing ? I reg retted
havingsuch a person as a f riend.I discussedthis matter with other f riends in myclass
andthen I f oundout that it was all because of competition.
Competition?
Yes,competition, because she couldnot bear seeingme perf ormingbetter than
she d oes in our studies.Competition has ledto jealousyandjealousyhas ledto
destruction.Competition has ledto the destruction ofa beautiful Iriendship. Isnt that a
tragedy ? Im sure I am not alone in beinga victim ofunhealthycompetition in
residential schools amongindividuals.I believe there are better way s to improve our
studies than throug h competition.Perhaps it all depends on the individual.

The Lake Isle ofInnisfree

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made.
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey bee
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnights all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow
And evening full of the linnets wings,

I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep hearts core.

KERTAS SOALAN TAMAT
One dark night, many boats came sailing down the Oya River. It had been raining
earlier. There was still a little thunder in the air. Umat was in the first boat, showing the way to
the others. The men in the boats were his peoples enemies!
Here, we are nearly there, he said softly, to the enemy leader. The village is just after
those tall trees there. Lets go very, very slowly so nobody can hear us.
I dont think anybody could hear us, the captain said. Theres all this thunder I say,
the thunder sounds funny in this area. It sounds just as if someone was cutting wood.
No, youre imagining things! Umat laughed. Come on, my friend, be a man. Youre not
afraid, are you?
Afraid hah! and to prove he was quite brave, the enemy captain stood up and walked
to the front of his boat. He was the first man to be killed by a tree that came crashing down.
