Occupation-based Final Reflection Michelle Ashley Final Reflection During my time at TUN I feel that I have learned so much

about how to be clientcentered and provide occupation-based intervention to my clients. This knowledge is so valuable, because it is the foundation of what it means to be an occupational therapist. I believe that is what separates our profession from other healthcare related professions. As occupational therapist we establish goals with the client, not for the client, and we are determined to incorporate occupationally relevant treatment approaches into their therapy setting. The coursework and assignments completed throughout the MSOT program at TUN, allowed me to grow and gain a better understanding of how to be an occupation-based practitioner. Even though at times some of the assignment seemed tedious, specifically the ones revolving around the OTPF, I now see the purpose of them. Those assignments provided me with the foundation to critically analyze all the variables impacting an individual, and develop the most appropriate treatment approach to allow them to regain independence in meaningful activities. When first starting the program I had an understanding of what it meant to provide occupation-based interventions, but I can say now that I truly grasp what is meant by this concept. I see the difference it makes in a clients recovery when they are included throughout the whole process while receiving rehabilitation services. They realize they are not just a number; you are actually there to help them and listen to what goals they want to accomplish. I will utilize this knowledge, and build upon it as I move forward on my journey of becoming a competent occupational therapist.
