What is Fair Trade?


Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers especially in the South.

Facts and Figures about Fair Trade


In the UK in 2001 there was 50.5 million sales of Fair Trade products. In the UK in 2011 there was 1319.3 million sales of Fair Trade products. 'fair trade' has been around for over 40 years but a formal labelling scheme wasn't launched until the late 1980s.

Two producers from different countries and how their communities benefit
This producer is located in Mount Elgon, Mbale district, south-east Uganda. The products that it makes is Washed arabica coffee. (Gumutindo Coffee ) Their community benefits because by selling this coffee, they are able to make money to survive on. This producer is located in Naivasha, Kenya. The products that is made is Oserian flowers. Their community benefits from this because all the workers included in this production get basic medical care. Nursery and primary schools near the farm take care of workers children. The workers houses are also near the farm. Some workers live in these houses for free or pay subsidised rents.

This year to celebrate the fabulous work of Fair Trade, we are having a Fair Trade Fun Day. Its going to be a fun packed day, with Bouncy Castles, Egg Races, Face Painting, Quizzes, a Treasure Hunt, a BBQ and much, much more. Courtesy of Fair Trade the entry fee for the day is going to be just 1. Fair Trade want to give you a fun day to just go crazy. So come along, invite your friends and family and just have a brilliant day out at the Fair Trade Fun Day.
