d its parts: the subject and the predicate. Students first listened to Yodas peculiar way of speaking. Students knew that this is not the way we talk, so they analyzed the structure of his sentences. e discussed the meaning of subjects and predicates and how they are used to form complete sentences. !y diagramming sample sentences, students learned that subjects tell who or what is doing the action in the sentence, while predicates tell what is happening in the sentence. Students then worked in groups to create their own sample sentences that the whole class then e"amined together. #hen students had the opportunity to create their own complete sentences and identify the subject and predicate in those sentences. Students shared their sentences with a partner, who also had to identify the subject and predicate in the sentences. Students were able to apply this new knowledge to their own writing and to recognize incomplete sentences in their reading.
