Social Studies Country Project

For our social studies unit, students explored the rich cultures of countries around the world. Students undertook a mini research project in which they picked a country that interested them, and would learn more about this country in order to present their findings to our class. We began this project by discussing geography and the differences between cities, states, countries, and continents. Through this discussion, students were better able to conceptualize their place in the world and how that translated to the countries they would be in estigating. We also constructed a definition of culture in order for students to enhance their global awareness and understand the kind of information they needed to gather during their research. !fter establishing guidelines, " modeled a sample poster and we discussed how the final products would be assessed. Students recei ed some time in class, as our schedule allowed, to work on their projects and use the classroom and library resources. #any students were positi ely moti ated by this project, and e en conducted research at home or the town library. !ll students worked ery diligently and proudly presented their finalized posters to the whole class.
