CHILD STUDY CENTER CURRICULUM PLAN: Infant/Toddler Spring 2014 WEEK 6 March 24 - 28 Mrs.

Johnsons Lead Teacher Week Infant Activity Music Wall There will be a music wall displayed outside on the fence. This wall will have different objects hanging from it for the infants to hit/bang with different spoons to explore the different sounds each object makes. Some of these objects include: a wind chime, bunt pan, ice cube tray and other common pots and pans.
*If weather is too cold to go outside, there will be a small music wall inside the center on the side of the climber.

THEME Creating Sound DISCOVERY TABLE Beads Galore The discovery table will be filled with beaded necklaces for the children to discover. They will be able to explore the different colors, textures, sounds and sizes of each necklace. There will be different items in the table to manipulate the necklaces throughout the week. Monday: Whisks, Metal Pan and Bucket Tuesday: Salad Tong and Small Tongs and Metal Pan and Bucket Wednesday: Pasta Spoons and Metal Pan and Bucket Thursday and Friday: Paper Towel Rolls with Holes

CLASSROOM: Circle OTHER Please read Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes as a family throughout the week. Please take pictures and write a short description of your experience with the book. I will compile family experiences into one binder to create a classroom book.

VOCABULARY or DEVELOPMENTAL CONCEPTS TO BE EMPHASIZED: MONDAY AM and PM: Paint personal terracotta pot with green acrylic paint using paintbrushes. The younger children will use washable paint. TUESDAY AM and PM: Paint personal item from home or item that they have selected at center. Please see highlighted description of personal item below. WEDNESDAY AM and PM: Paint terracotta pot with yellow acrylic paint using sponges. The younger children will use washable paint. THURSDAY AM: Glue tiles onto personal terracotta pot. PM: Glue ribbon onto personal terracotta pot by using water down glue substance with paintbrushes. FRIDAY AM: Glue tiles onto personal terracotta pot. PM: Glue ribbon onto personal terracotta pot by using water down glue substance with paintbrushes.
At the end, each terracotta pot and special item will hang to create a wind chime. These will hang from a tree in the playground area. The children will be able to watch them move and hear the sounds they make while they are outside. They will also be able to see them from inside the center. At the end of the semester, they will be able to take their terracotta pot wind chime home.

GROSS MOTOR: Dance Floor

AM and PM:
The children will dance/move to the song W alking, walking on a textured dance floor throughout the week. After the song, they will be encouraged to do different body movements on the dance floor.

AM and PM: The dance floor will be big green bubble wrap placed on the tile floor.

AM and PM: The dance floor will be contact paper (with the sticky side facing up) placed on the tile floor.

*The children will also be singing, If your happy and you know it after circle time. They will use different body motions for each new verse. So instead of clapping they will pat their legs or stomp their feet.

The dance floor will be small bubble wrap placed on the tile floor.

FOR ART: Please send a special object for your childs terracotta pot wind chime with your child on Monday! This object needs to be between two and five inches long. Some examples include: a large key, key chain, old silverware, a small planting tool or a small toy. This will help make their terracotta pot wind chime special and personal. If the child forgets to bring something, they will be able to select something from an assortment of items at the center. So, no wind chime will be left out! Reminder: These personal items will be painted and hanging outside.
