CAMPUS SERVICE LEARNING - AFFIRMATION OF PARTICIPATION

March 26, 2014 To Whom It May Concern: In October/November 2013, Colleen Santos had the opportunity to participate in a Campus Service Learning fundraising activity at Conestoga College for the United Way. The United Way is the charity of choice supported by Conestoga College, providing fundraising support annually throughout the month of October and early November. Colleen participated in the planning, organization and execution of a fundraising event through the Human Services Foundations program. The Campus Service Learning exercise that Colleen participated in provided a strong opportunity for students to experience civic responsibility firsthand and gain a greater sense of connection to the College community. The Roles and Responsibilities of participants who led the fundraiser included but were not limited to: Organization and logistics of the fundraising activity, including the conception of the activity Promotion and advertising of the event to the Conestoga College student community, with a particular aim towards generating new and innovative strategies focused on a student-age population Canvassing and making sponsorship requests to local businesses and organizations for their support with donations to support the event Liaising with community agencies funded by United Way to invite them to participate as part of their fundraising festivities Execution of the activity, including canvassing on-campus for loose change donations Colleen had the opportunity to strengthen oral communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills as well as enhance their portfolio with valuable volunteer experience. Overall, Colleen helped the Human Services Foundations program fundraise more than $1,200 through three one-hour fundraising events. This incredible amount contributed to Conestoga Colleges overall fundraising goal of $50,000. It was Student Lifes pleasure to have Colleen participate during our United Way fundraising campaign. We feel that all of our volunteers were a great asset to the overall success of Conestoga Colleges United Way Campaign. Without them we would not have been able to raise awareness of our selected charity throughout the College as well as reach and surpass our fundraising goals. Sincerely,
