Bell 1 Elizabeth Bell ENGL 1102 Elizabeth Hinnant 29 April 2014 EIP Proposal RJ Reynolds High School is an Arts

Magnet School. This means that art is incorporated into very class in some way, be it music, creative writing, theater, or visual arts. Altogether, there are four visual arts teachers, one of which focuses on the digital side of art. I will be focusing on the remaining three teachers, who mainly focus on the studio arts, as they have always appeared to have a certain air about them that has fascinated me. They all have their own teaching styles, and that makes each of their classes unique, even if they are teaching the same class. However, I will be focusing more on how their teaching styles allow the students more freedom in the classroom, and thus the ability for more creativity. The classrooms, from what Ive seen myself, are usually very relaxed, and can seem as more of a time to hangout as well as work on art. Why is the room so relaxed? The teachers sometimes play music, but this could be distracting to some students. They also allow the students to talk amongst themselves too, but wouldnt that also be distracting to other students if they want to focus on their art? I hope to observe both the positive and negative effects of allowing the students to work in this kind of environment. I believe that the studio art teachers at Reynolds have interesting teaching styles, which are unique to each teacher, and that the effectiveness of their styles can vary.
